Scab on ear flap:(

Hmm ok. Oscar has this black scab on his ear. Last week, I thought it was something that was just stuck to his ear. So I removed it. He didnt show any pain when I was taking it off so I thought it was just gunk stuck or something. But it came back. Oscar gets ear infections quite frequently unfortunatly (hes already had 3 in the last year) but his ears seem to be just fine at the moment. They are clean, dont have a funky odour to them, and are light pink. What could this be?

Question

Where is it exactly ? Does it look like it is imbedded in the skin ? Does it bleed ? What does it look like after you remove it ?

Ok...I just took it off again so I could look at it. The hair in that is totally bald area and its a redish pink colour. There is sorta like a cut on it but I have no idea where it came from.

Anyone have any ideas? Its not healing on its own. Should I let it develop the scab and let it heal on its own? It doesnt look serious but I dont know why it wont go away.

I would leave it for a week, Let it heal and then remove the scab if it has not come off yet. After 7 days it should have healed if it is not a deep cut. If it has not healed then I would call the vet.

It could be a number of things if healing has not occured yet.

Well one reason why I think it hasnt fully healed becuase I just picked off the scab today so now I new one has to form. That sets it back another week or so. Im going to keep an eye on it. It just buggs me because ive become such a freak on keeping Oscars ear's clean beacuse of all the prior infections, (hes so miserable when he has them,) I cant help but not see it.

Im gonna leave it alone totally. Not touch the scab etc... and see what happends. I thought it was somehow related to the infection but the infection is gone and its still there. Do you thing something may of bitten him? What exactly are ear mites?

Bailey, one of my indoor cats had ear mites as a kitten. She was a barn kitten and her mother was loaded with ear mites.

Poor little thing. She was infested with them.

They are small insects that feed on the hosts blood. When they poop they excrete a black/brownish wax substance that builds up in the ears. It is gross. You will see it down in the ear canal not on the outside of the ear but inside. You would need to claen the ear out and then put in drops to kill the mites and clear up any infection caused by the mites.

Joe and Ozzy itch till they bleed. The ears are clean tho.
Maybe Oscar had an itch and got carried away. It will heal on it's own.
Picking the scab prolongs it. Leave it alone DAD!

now it could be dirt/wax mixed or it could be earmites. better check first. my sis' beagle has earmites and they look just like dirty ears to me. (like I'm that educated in ear mites! lol)
