Brr, it's cold

It's been very cold here in MN the past couple of days - in the single digits F. When I go out with Kimi so she can get a litte exercise and go potty she starts limping after a bit. Am I right in thinking that's it's just that her paws are cold? She seems ok once we get back in.

I think you should probably watch her and check out her paws but I do know that Brie limps from the cold when she's been out for a while. I think she gets clumps of snow caught between her toes and it's uncomfortable. Once the snow melts or I wipe it off, she's fine.

How old is she? Arthritis can be painful when its cold outside. It also triggers it. You might want to invest in some insulated booties for her paws.

Booties sound like a good idea. Does anyone know if putting something like Vaseline on the pads before going out helps to protect them?

My beagle/bassett does the same thing. We are also in MN and when I put her out to play she either limps back to the door or stands on the stairs to the house with one paw up. When we go inside she is fine. She is really not going to like the booties idea.

Well its very cold here today, it took me an age to get breeze to go out! And when she did it was rush to do her bits then back to her bed, but I have noticed when we have snow down all the dog tend to lift alternate legs up,

Funny

It is funny to watch these little guys in the snow. Ginger use to get clunks of snow in her paws. She would usually lick them away. Right now Snuggles little path is pressed down but tomorrow more snow is predicted. It was under 0 degrees today also - although probably not as cold as Minnesota.

Brrrr here too !! With the wind it's in the single digits or low teens. I usually walk Stoney and Cali about 1-2 miles in the afternoon. They haven't had any problems other than road salt or salt on the sidewalks. If they walk through some I try to then walk them through some snow to get it out of their pads. I wondered too about using Vaseline. I think they make some other cream for their pads. Not sure what it's called.
