What is she?

I just adopted a new little dog from the Humane Society. She looks exactly like a little red fox - I kid you not - coat patterns and all.

Here are her pictures from the Humane Society. In real life she's got a wiry but super-soft coat, kind of a sheltie body shape. She is a resource hoarder big time (every time I clean out her bed she has gathered stuff from around the house and put it there). She is super-obedient and sensitive.

She is 8 months old, 20 lbs and roughly 18" tall.

I wish I could get better pictures but this is what I have for right now.

So what do you think?

Yeah but she's WAY to small for that breed.

I think she could be crossed with any one of these breeds

Border Terrier
Norfolk Terrier
Australian Terrier
Jack Russell Terrier [wire coat]
Wire fox Terrier

The dog from Winn Dixie was a Picardy Shepherd, MUCH larger!
How about a Portegues Podengo?

I have enclosed a few pics, I think that's what she is.

Congrats on your new pup! She's absolutely adorable! I'm not good with terrier breeds, but it does look a lot like the breed rottiegirl posted.

Thought I would add a little more info about the Podengo for you... and a few more pictures can't hurt right?
Portuguese Podengo

The Portuguese Podengo is an ancient hunting breed whose origins trace back more than 5,000 years to northern Africa. Most likely introduced to Portugal by the Phoenicians, its first pictorial representations are found in the Roman ruins in Conimbriga (Portugal) on mosaics and medallions. It’s first written reference is in 1199 AD, during the reign of Portugal’s King D. Sancho I. To this day, the Podengo retains the characteristics of its early ancestors and has a low incidence of inherited diseases or disorders.

There are three types of Podengos: Podengo Grande, Podengo Medio and Podengo Pequeno. Within each type are two varieties: smooth-coated and wire-haired.

The Grande, or largest, is almost extinct and is used in wild boar hunting. The Medio, or medium-sized, is a popular dog used for rabbit hunting and is the logo of the Clube Portugues de Canicultura (Portuguese Kennel Club).

The Podengo Pequeno, the smallest of the Podengos, was also in danger of becoming extinct. In the 1960’s, under the careful guidance and direction of Podengo Pequeno aficionados in Portugal, it began to experience a comeback.

www.podengos.com is the Official website and parent club of the breed.
