DAC Animal To Be Euthanized 12/17/05

We received this information at work regarding all of the animals in holding at the Detroit Animal Control. I thought it was worth posting here in case anyone in the area happens to be reading the forum. To say this is very sad and unfortunate is a gross understatement!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
All of the Detroit Animal Control (DAC) animals are slated for euthanasia
on Dec. 17, unless area rescue groups can pull them. In an attempt to save
money, the city is cutting "non-essential" city services for certain blocks
of time. Apparently animal control in the city is considered a
"non-essential" city service.
Detroit Animal Control will completely close down for the last two weeks of
December, starting Dec. 17.
If you are or someone you know is looking to adopt a pet, DAC has beautiful
cats, dogs, kittens and puppies available.
If you or anyone you know is in a position to take animals from the
facility, please do so. This is beyond an urgent situation. If you have
any questions, please contact Amy Wettlaufer at (248)545-5055.
Thank you,
I wish I could take some of them, but besides logistics my mother couldn't handle having more dogs around. Penny by herself is a lot of work.
OMG that makes me sooooo upset and sick!!!!!! What the city cant spend some money to save some animals????!!!!!!! I cannot belive that!!!! I would almost like to adopt an animal from there and pay to get it shipped just to save one from death!!!!!!!!!! I am truly sadened!!!!
Does this happen in alot of cites??? I dont think it happens here they only uthenize if they have to.
Why they doing it so close to x-mas, when so many animals get adopted around this time of year for presents????
Anyone live close or in detroit??? I will look at the animals mabe I can ship one here, but I dont have lots of money
Here is a link to the DAC through Petfinder. Strange, but the DAC says animals not adopted by 12/23, when they close for the holidays, will be available when they reopen in January. Hmm...
