Exclamation dog had seizure

I have a Black Lab female that is 5 years old. Today when the family had her in the house, she had a seizure. (my husband told me that she was just like his nephew, when he has his seizures)To my knowledge she has never had one before. She spends most of her time outside with my other dogs, but during the day we bring her in for company. I was wondering if this could be just a one time thing, or if anyone knows what a vet will do when I take her there. She is a very healthy dog, and like I stated, never had a seizure before. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Harley had a seizure a few months back, scared the **** out of me! It lasted about 10 min. I never heard such a scream come from an animal it my life! He never had one either. Well of course I took him right to vet. One of the questions she asked me have ther been any dead animals around. I said yes. In my barn they laid out rodent poisen and the Rats were comming into my yard dying. There was about 5 of them that were dead. So he must of messed with one of them and the poisen got into him. He was on antibiotics and was fine. I have electric fence to keep my kids in yard but it doesn't stop other animals from getting in! So maybe thats why she had a seizure. Kimberly

I hope you please take him to a vet. seizures can be a one time occurance or they also can be a sign of a very serious illness. I personally wouldn't wait until he seizures again. JMO

Buck had a seizure one time. It was really bad and my dad rushed him to the vet. The vet did all these test on him but nothing was wrong, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

i agree with everything said here, get her to the vet. It might be a one time thing or this might be a symptom of a bigger prob.

I would bring her to the vet for a good check-up. A seizure can be brought on by many things. It's best to have them look her over.

I know how you feel. None of my pets ever had seizures but I do! When I was little I had 8 in a day and bad one that lasted for about 10 minutes. Sometimes vets give dogs the same meds. as people take for seizures like me. Tegratol, Phenabarbatrol, Dilantin. I use to take them all. The only one that works GREAT is Tegratol. I only have 1 if I am over tired & dont get enough sleep in days. But I am all good now I had Brain Surgery done in 1993 and it worked like a charm. I wonder if they do surgery for dogs! Well, I hope your dog feel better soon!!

Danelover don't they give meds if the dog/person had epilepsy? I know that my friends cocker spaniel had to take like 3 pills of Phenabarbatrol and he was drugged up all of the time. It was sad. He started having seizures one day and he fell into the pool on top of my friend's sister. It was sad. They had to take him to the LSU vet school. If your dog hasn't had any more problems, then she should be ok but I would still take him to the vet to see if maybe he could find out what caused the seizure in the first place.

Yes because I have epilepsy! My dogs dont have & never did have a seizure that is TiggerToo132 dog that did. But you are right about one thing Tegratol & Phenabarbatrol puts you to sleep.

That's what I thought but you didn't acually say anything about epilepsy in the post but I thought that's what you meant. I knew that wasn't your dog, I was just wondering about it.
