diaorreah problem

My 6 year old golden retriever has had diaorreah for 2 days now and we have noticed traces of blood too, we are going to take him to the vet as we are quite worried about this, anybody have any ideas what it can be, he seems healthy, running around and wanting to play so hoepfully it is not anything bad.

sometimes the blood is caused by the straining they do when they have dierehea. So more than likely its from that. The doctor will be able to tell you more whe they do the fecal

Diarrhea could be caused by SEVERAL different things. Ate something and upset stomach ache, Giardia, intestinal parasites, Parvo (for puppies), on and on and on.

I hope the vet is able to tell you more.

Vet yes but in the mean time. Feed a bland diet like cooked rice and cooked chicken and lots to drink. I use 50 % water and 50 % pedialytes when my dogs are sick at all. Sometimes they catch a bug that is going around.

You can also give Slippery Elm. One capsule per 10 lbs, and then divide by two for twice daily.

My 40 lb dog gets 4 capsules. 2 in the AM, 2 in the PM.

I'm with Sam. Put him on a controlled diet... You can also give canned pumpkin to help the tract, or some liquid pepto bismol.

Thanks to everybody for their advise, sam is fine now the bleeding stopped but i still took him to vets to have him checked and he seemed to think it was some type of infection he had picked up, he's back to his usuall self now, playing with his toys and eating like a horse, thank god.
