Question Blue eyes?

Are Dalmations that have blue eyes in danger of going blind? I was told the blue eyes are bad? My Dal see's just fine now, but will he later on?

Thanks.

Blue eyes in Dalmations are considerd undesireable and are penalized in the show ring. The breed standard calls for brown eyes.

But having said that I see no reason why they should effect your dogs sight. You dog is not an albino so should not be photosensitive.

My Rusty has blue eyes. Its in his breeding trait. They dont tend to be blind. In fact he watches so many things like a hawk.

no blue eyes does not mean blindness in dalmatians. It really isnt very common for a dalmatian to be blind unless by old age or an injury. Sometimes in deaf dals blue eyes are more common but still there usually arent any sight problems. Your dog will be fine and might I say he is mighty handsome.

usually if both eyes ar blue you are alright. However somtimes when there is only one eye that is blue it could be a simbole of either blindness, or more commonly deafness in the ear associated with the eye. But not always.... just sometimes.
