Prego female headed to rescue!

There was an add in a local paper advertising a "breeding pair" for $300.00.

These dogs are not quite 2 years old, and this is the females second litter. My rescue and another is going to buy the pair. We will keep the male, they will foster the female till birth. We will then split the puppies into foster homes between both rescues. Both mom and dad will be altered and adopted out.

Guess who will be fostering a puppy????

The woman told us they tied, and she "thinks" the bitch is prego. Hopefully the male Dobe is the dad. Otherwise the puppies may have to go to a mixed breed rescue. Its too hard to adopt mixed dogs froma purebred rescue. ONLY because people come looking for purebreds.

kudos to you for your rescue efforts! That is great that you get those dogs out of people hands that have no idea (obviously) what they are doing.

We've actually had great success adopting GSD mixes through our rescue. Many people have come specificly looking for a GSD, but have fallen in love with one of our mixed kids.

Breeding pair, $300... just like that, eh? Cut and dried? I swear people just never get it.

Just this evening at the dog park I met a lady with two American Eskamos and she was talking about neutering her young male with raging hormones, BUT she wanted to get one litter of pups first. I casually asked why, and she said "My mother wants one."

My thought (though I did not say this to her) was "Why doesn't your mother go buy her own?"

I then asked her about finding homes for the rest of the litter. The response was "They'll be purebred, I can sell them."

I give up!! Sounds like your situation just waiting to repeat it's self Dobermom.

i wish you luck with them. and don't be discouraged if they are mixes - i have a similar experience as GSR at the Lab rescue. most of the home visits i do are for mixes. people fall in love with the dog's faces/personality and aren't as worried about whether they are purebred.
