Does anyone have a Rhodesian Ridgeback? I'm trying to find out some info about them as as well as personal experiences. Thanks

Somebody once told me they were aggressive, nasty dogs, I can't remember who though. Whoever they were they were wrong because everyone I've ever met has been the sweetest, gentlest dog that I've ever met. I love the way they have the ridge, it looks so cool and I love their colouring too! I think that one of our members has one...

They are an...intense breed, Dane, I imagaine your dogs friends are well behaved through a LOT of good training. Remember this breed was bred to hunt and take down LIONS! that's a powerful dog if not properly trained and socilized!

Gorgeous dogs. We almost got one instead of Rudy. Had there been puppies available we would have one now. BUT I am so glad we have Rudy. maybe I should add a Rigdeback to compliment our dobes.

I go to the nursing home with my dog every month and there is another dog who goes too who is a Rhodesian Ridgeback. He is a VERY sweet dog, and not aggressive at all. He doesn't really like other dogs though, he just wants to stay away from them.

I used to babysit years ago for a woman that had one. He was a very calm, friendly dog, but yes very intense and dedicated. He very much felt his job was to protect his family; he would sound a very determined alarm to anyone pulling up to the house until they got out of the car and he could see if he knew them. If he did, all was well. If not, he watched them very carefully; no growling or nastiness, but just watchful. It took two or three visits before I was fully "okay" with him and he would play and be friendly with me. Before he was never mean or scary, but you could tell he was watching and evalutating me to see if I was "safe" to be around his family.
