Can someone please tell me what this is?

Ok, occasionally Oscar will turn around and try to lick his anus in a mad panic for some reason. Its some type of discharge. Its disgusting because sometimes this REALLY foul smelling liquid will drip out and it just stinks up the whole room. I have no clue what it is or whats causing it. Anyone have any ideas?

sounds like his an.al glands need to be cleaned out. They have glands at the back end that fill up with foul smelling fluid that have to be cleared out. I would get to a groomer/vet to have them do it. (it's really nasty)

Sounds like Gino he is getting his sacs removed as cleaning them in May did nothing to help relieve his pain and iscomfort.

They get a pounding feeling that they need to go and not much comes out of BM, so they grunt and have a probably most miserable feeling most of the time. I have been told by my friend a docter to remove them, they are just a scent gland of no use and when they become a problem best to rid of them, so after New Years Gino goes in for the surgery. He licks alot and some days are worse than others.

It's a discharge from his **** glands, normally expressed when defecating. Sometimes they get full and you will see the dog scooting his butt on the floor. Male dogs are prone to problems with them more than females but mostly the vet or groomer can express them. You can too but watch out squeezing them can be very messy and stinky. I feed my dogs a few spoonfuls of canned pumpkin to help them stay naturally expressed and healthy.

Have you never had his a.nal glands cleaned? Mom checks the sacs on the poor dogs every time they have a bath. She squeezes them usually about every 4 months.One full stream comes out and then the bathroom reeks, but it keeps this from happening. It is very important you get this cleaned.

Go to a groomers they are usually cheaper then the vets. Just like has been already said, if you don't get this done and don't keep up with it reg. then he could get a bad infection.

Right now he is probably VERY uncomfortable and even in some pain. So I would get it done as soon as you can

You prob wanna do it in the tub cuz you might get it all over that way you can wash him off. Just feel on either side of the butt hole you will feel lil lumps with thumb on one side and index finger on the other side squeez. very easy

There are two common methods which can be referred to as the "external" and
"internal" methods. With the external method we express the **** glands by
placing a paper towel (or something similar) against the glands (which can be
felt with the fingers - they feel like "grapes" under the skin) and gently pressing
on them to get them to express. With the other method of expressing the ****
glands, called the "internal" method, we first put a latex exam glove on and
lubricate the index finger with KY jelly. Then the index finger is gently inserted
in the anus and we isolate the gland between the index finger and thumb. Then
we gently squeeze the gland from both sides (inside and outside) to express the
secretion. I personally prefer this method because (for me at least) I can express
more of the secretion from the gland than with the external method

Sharky, I read that on a site somewhere but I still cant do it I just took Oscar outside and tryed to do it but im getting nothing. I used a bag over my hand and slightly stuck my finger in his anus (YUCK) but still nothing Why wont it work?
