Horrible story!

Virginia Beach Cat Survives Torture

It seems that Smokey really dies have nine lives. Virginia Beach Animal Control officers said the cat was tortured by his owners.

"Smokey is an abused cat," said Dale Bartlett at the Virginia Beach SPCA "You can see he still has paint on his ears. He was shot by paintballs."

Animal Control officers said he was not only shot with a paintball gun at least 10 times, but Smokey survived other tortures. They said he was thrown against the wall numerous times and punched. He was also put inside a dryer and that dryer was turned on.

Siblings Mickey and Molly McFayden are charged with animal cruelty. They live at the Linkhorn Bay Apartments off of Birdneck.

Brian Atkins lives next to the accused. He's disgusted.

"It's hard to believe," he said. "I have two cats and I see my son play with them. It's hard to understand how anyone could treat another living being like that."

Now, Smokey is in good hands. He's being nursed back into good health by the SPCA He also came in underweight and had several broken teeth.

"We want to find him a home with someone who will treat him right and give him the love he deserves," said Dale Bartlett. "He's a sweet cat."

The SPCA said Smokey will likely be put up for adoption after the McFayden's go to court in early February.

Recently, the penalties for animal cruelty have been increased. But unfortunately, animal control officers said they still see the same amount of disturbing cases.-

People are sick!

That poor cat, that story made me feel sick. I dont know how anyone can do that to any animal. Its cruel and cowardly.

I do hope Smokey finds a great loving home.

I totally agree rottie. But a lot of people just look at them as animals and nothing else. It's sad.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!

Honestly, would the world miss these two peasants if some terrible harm befell them sometime?? I mean how low can one go than to abuse and cruelly mistreat an animal. Just makes my blood boil this kind of incident.
I must confess I cannot ever sit back idly or turn away if I witness animal cruelty first hand or even hear about it second hand. I have always been proactive in these regards and feel it's my responsibility to ensure such abuse doesn't happen again. Myself and my friends have at times taken it upon ourselves to make sure these abuses are never repeated.
I won't elaborate but rest assured those offenders learn a valuable and sometimes painful lesson and their victims never have to go through any such ordeal again. If we don't defend animals from human cruelty then we as the highest placed members of the food chain have seriously neglected our responsibilities.
As President Kennedy (I think??) once said, "If not us, who, if not now, when??"

Phoenix.
