This is cheap and works, Oceana a female I have for one year I worked, spent lots of money at the vet to no avail. Now she is ear sore free, clean, dry and nice, no problems, trust me it works, must sign for the stuff behind pharmacy, cheap and mix with witch hazel or alcholol, depending on the burn or rawness of the ear. 16 oz bottle works, put in smaller pointer bottle to fit in the ear more easily. I have some eye droppers I used till I broke down and bought a cheap bottle of ear cleaner, dumped it out and filled with this treatment, watch the purple dyes things, when dogs shakes, run, lol.
Blue Power Ear Treatment INGREDIENTS: 16 Oz. Isopropyl Alcohol 4 Tablespoons Boric Acid Powder 16 Drops Gentian Violet Solution 1% Mix together in alcohol bottle and shake well. You will also need to shake solution every time you use it to disperse the Boric Acid Powder. To use, purchase the "Clairol" type plastic bottle to dispense solution to affected ears. TREATMENT: Evaluate condition of ears before treating and if very inflamed and sore do not attempt to pull hair or clean out ear at all. Wait until inflammation has subsided which will be about 2 days. Shake the bottle each time before using. Flood the ear with solution (gently squirt bottle), massage gently to the count of 60, wipe with a tissue. Flood again on first treatment, wipe with a tissue, and leave alone without massage. The dog will shake out the excess which can be wiped with a tissue, the Gentian Violet does stain fabrics. SCHEDULE OF TREATMENT Treat 2x per day for the first week to two weeks depending upon severity of ears Treat 1x per day for the next 1-2 weeks Treat 1x per month (or even less frequently, depending on the dog) All of these ingredients should be available at a pharmacy. The Boric Acid Powder soothes the ear. The Gentian Violet Solution is an anti-infection agent. The solution appears to work well on any and all ear problems from mites to wax to canker. After the second or third you can clean out the ear with a Q-tip or cotton balls. Their success rate for this treatment is 95-99%. Those who do not succeed have usually not done the treatment long enough or have not been regular about it. Dogs on the verge of ear canal surgery have been returned to normal with only the regular follow-up treatment to keep the ear healthy. If an infection seems to be remaining in the treated ear after the above course of treatment, you may also have some Pseudomonas bacteria in the site. This can be eradicated by using a gentle flush of raw apple cider vinegar and water (warm). Use 2 Tablespoons of vinegar to one cup of water, 2x per week. They have found the Blue Power Solution to be effective for treating fungus-type infections on the feet and elsewhere on the dog, for cuts on dogs or people, and for hot spots. You may find other uses for this simple anti-infective agent. Remember it is for external use only and be careful not to get into the eyes. |

What did you clean them with? Do the ears have a musty odor? If there is an infection prescription medication from the vet might be required. Their ears can get quite tender with an infection.

Buck got a yeast infection in his ear a couple months ago. We had cleaned them out a while ago and we didn't realize that they were infected but whenever we touched his ear he started crying. We took him to the vet the next day and there was all this gunk in his ears that they cleaned out and they gave us some cleaner to use 2x a day and some medicine to use 1nce daily. The medicine made his ears really oily but it worked.

What did you clean them with?
Most dogs don't need to have their ears cleaned often, or with anything strong. If there is excess build-up or smell, I would contact the vet instead of cleaning them myself. I clean Kirby's ears with cider vinegar on random occasions. |

well, you want to be carefull that your ear cleaner and medication doesn't contain to much alchohal. I use Malaseb flush for my dogs ( it also has a drying agent inside of it, so if you aren't able to get all of it out than its no big deal. But anywaz, the ear itsef is shaped like an " L" so its always possible to " dig" to far and bruise the ear itself. I would just look inside the ear to make sure there is no blood , and watch your dog to make sure that there is no exsessive scratching at the ear. If there is i would take the animal to the vet to have the ear looked at. If everything is fine i would try something mabey milder in the ear cleaning department, and watch for any signs of discomfurt.

My first question is not what solution you used, but what else you did.
Did you use a q-tip or a cotton ball to clean the gunk out? You should never use a q-tip. A cotton ball or balled up piece of paper towel will get plenty of the gunk away and the stuff that is in deeper will take care of itself with the wash. |

With the vet solution I put on here u can use Witch Hazel more readily and works as well. In fact it does not burn, I am telling you this cleared up Oceana ears in 3 days and have not had one problem, they are so dry, pink clean and bright, I do not put anything in her ears now. This worked like a miracle and was put on line by a vet in school. Her ears were constantly crusted and runny with a brownish, reddish discharge, smelled, itched to high heaven, now gone..............
