Talking I met my first Rotti

Well last night my parents and I went to my Half Brothers house to give his son which is my nephew a xmas present.
When we walked through the door, my mom went first then I and I stopped cause this huge dog came up to me. It was a rotti and did I say it was Huge?! Cause it was like HUGE! We have German Shepherds, but this thing was 4 times the size of our biggest German Shepherd Cyrus. I was taken aback, I was interested but cautious. So I started petting "BudMan" and then he rolled over and I started rubbing his belly, he then ran off some where and I thought he left me but he came running back with a pink pig squeak toy. Layed on his back again and put the pig toy in his paws and would throw it up in the air and catch it in his mouth.
BudMan is 9 years old but he looks like he is 3. He use to wiegh 115 pounds but he had a surgery, that cost $4,000.00 and 6 months of therapy. So now he wieghs 95 pounds.
This dog was so sweet. Later we all moved into the living room and I sat on the floor and Bud Man layed by me and put his head in my lap. After awhile he got up and sat in my lap. He wieghs 95 pounds. ompf!
I have never met such a big sweet boy before. Trevor my nephew is 2 years old, the dog is much much much bigger then him but he is so gentle and well behaved around Trevor, they are best buds. Even if Trevor has food the dog wont push him around to get it, instead he gives these big puppy eyes and stares. I have always wanted to meet a Rotti before because I like the breed but didnt know how they acted and this one was a good experience to meet for the first time.

Oh it was, they are really gorgeous dogs. I love thier coat and markings.
My dad likes them to, he likes how they are even tempered. Budman is gentle anough to be around a 2 year old and hes welcoming with guest and loves attention from them, but when you put him outside he will stay where hes at and lay there and bark at dogs and people who are passing by. Thats what my dad liked about him, how you dont have to worry about him being agressive towards guests and friends, but that he will warn others away.

That sounds like pretty typical meeting of a well raised Rotti.

Rotties are fantastic dogs, huh?! They are one of my favorite breeds...and despite that somewhat intimidating appearance, they can be the sweetest teddy bears Ever!

I'm glad you had such a good experience!

GS, you met a good Rotti. Sadly they aren't all like that. My best friend a few years back had a male and female. The female was great, very funny. At first the male LOVED me and protected me and everything, and then one day he just growled at me and I never messed with him again. For whatever reason he didn't like me. I was NEVER mean to him or anything, I always petted him and was gentle. I've met quite a few mean Rotts. I think some are just special and are sweet and gentle, but the majority I have met are agressive. The one I was just talkin about lived in a great family and was never abused or anything. I would have a female, but not a male Rotti. If a male turned on me, I wouldn't be able to do much cuz they are so big. That scares me and I am not willing to take that chance. But there are the unique few that are just big babies

oh yea I know!! Thats why I slowly played with him more and more and when I got comfortable I sat on the carpet. Any dog can be mean and have his lil quirks, like cute and cotony kirby did one day with Mooies fingers but a Rottie is so massive that it would of been way worst, huh. Majestic dogs, there gorgeous.

Yeah it would have been worse. I have found the male Rotti's to just be very unpredictable, moreso than Pitbulls in my case. And yes, any dog can be mean but I've seen more mean Rott's than any other breed personally. It's great though when you meet a good one definitely.
