what breed?

I have a neighbor who wants a dog but I don't know a lot about small breeds so I have come to you for help. Here's what they want

1. low maintenance (doesn't want to have to go to groomer every 2 months)
2. small breed
3. good with small kids (4 kids under the age of 6yrs old)
4. will get along with other dogs
5. not overly protective, but will give a warning bark
6. not a nervous dog

ok, so what do you think guys?

Hey sweetie I suggest a mini Schnauzer, although some grooming is necessary on most small breeds, that is why I dis like the breed. I would much rather have a non maintentainence dog as the Shepherd to keep than One I spend tons of dollars at a groomers, explain this to them and the Shepherd is a medium sized dog of no maintentaince, little feeding also, daily brushing as all dogs require, love daily as all require, no ribbons tiies, etc, just brush me , love me and give me a hug and feed me and I am so happy.

Other than that they is the JR breed that is high energy, Bostons, high energy, any terrier is high energy requiring lots of exercise to be so truthful to you. I have owned and bred these and GOSH what work. I find the Shepherds to be mellow compaired to some of the litttle ones for small places that require more work than a medium sized dog.
Explain this to them and let them decide, it does not matter to me only that they understand how high energy the terrier group is compared to the shepherds, schnauzers, airdales, etc. Tell them to go to google.com and ask what breed might suit them better than what I have tried to suggest. Not because I breed them but the Shepherds require so little exercise compared to little ones u would never believe. Also the Rottys, I love and others like this, just compare and have them research what they want to deal with, and God Bless and Good Luck

Boston Terrier
Papillon
Pug
Schipperke
Tibetan Spaniel
Here are some smaller breeds that don't require alot of grooming,Some brushing.

good with small kids (4 kids under the age of 6yrs old)
4. will get along with other dogs
5. not overly protective, but will give a warning bark
6. not a nervous dog

All of these could be any breed if trained properly.

I will have to disagree with you on that last statement. There are several dog breeds which are known to not really get along with small kids, it's part of their makeup as much as any other breed characteristics.

thank you for the recommendations though, i really appreciate it.

I wouldn't go for a Pap for small children... too small & breakable!

I second the motion for Bostons & Pugs. I'd reccomend an English Bulldog, but that's a little on the larger side.

Beagle?

lol, me neither, but they're tough, and don't generally have snappy issues.

I just got this off of a site. Most small ones don't make the cut.

I have to say pug, after all they are my breed. Also, bostons, wire hair terriers.
But pugs are really easy to keep up just bath, nails and wash their wrinkles.
