Smile Roscoe

Ms. Lisa is supposed to be bringing Roscoe home with her today. I don't know if I told y'all about the latest update, but this is it: Ms Lisa has a little foster dog, Pepper, who is supposed to be going to her new home today. She already had 2 dogs so couldn't bring Roscoe home with her until Pepper had gone. She wanted to wait until after the Christmas hassel to bring her home and so she was going to bring her today. After she drops Pepper off she is going to the barn to do her lessons and she is going to bring Roscoe home with her after that. We are going to see if his "owners" come frantically looking for him or just don't care. If they do come looking lisa is going to explain the situation to the owner. She is just going to tell them that they had better get the dog fixed and keep him home and if he ever shows up at the barn again they will not be getting him back. And if they don't come looking for him then Lisa will get him neutered and get his shots through her rescue program and we can adopt him through there. We will probably find out what the owners did on my Wednesday lesson and whether or not we will be able to have him, and if it works out he can get neutered and his shots during the week and we can get him on my saturday lesson! I just hope the stupid people don't get in the way!

Oh dear I hope you aren't heading for trouble by getting the dog fixed without the owner's permission. I personally would love to spay all the cats and dogs I see running around free in our neighborhood, but it is asking for trouble as some nasty people will use that as an excuse to sue you because they had "planned on breeding dog/cat and you took income away from them". I have heard that before from somebody who had found a flea infested dog, posted in the lost and found section of the paper, then decided after 3 weeks to keep the dog. My friend took the dog to the vet for a checkup, had her fixed and shaved. The poor animal was matted so badly that the poodle had to be totally shaved like a sheep. A month later the owner showed up at my friend's door asking for her pet back and threatening to sue because the dog was fixed. The only reason that the owner didn't sue was because the lady who had the dog fixed had taken pictures, gotten the vet to write an affidavit stating the condition the dog was in and threatening to turn it all over to the courts to handle. Not only did the previous owner back down when she found out that bullying wasn't going to work, she also left without the dog. This was a year ago and Angel is one of the sweetest, friendliest poodles that I have ever seen.

Thanks for telling us that Icymist, my dad is worried about that. But it's a risk we have to take! The people know where the dog goes and so they have every opportunity to come and find him. It's not that the people want their dog intact, it's that they just don't want to bother to neuter him. I feel bad though because if anyone gets in trouble it would be ms lisa. We would be adopting Roscoe through the rescue rather than taking him ourselves. I didn't hear from her yesterday but I will find out what happened Wednesday.

Good Luck - I hope you get him - those people don't deserve to have him as a pet!
