Weaning Age?

My puppy was weaned and home with me at 7 weeks old. I always thought it was 10 weeks old when puppies left thier mothers? Am I wrong? Does it depend on the breed? I got her thru the ASPCA, and I would assume/hope that they would only do what is in the best interests of the animal.

What are your thoughts on this?

Are there any long term issues that can result from early weaning? If so, what are they? What should I look for? How can I help her cope?

So far, she has adjusted beautifully. She sleeps thru the night in her pen (I don't know if she is sleeping all that time, but is quiet and content...and has access to her potty papers) She is socializing wonderfully with all the members of our household, both animal and human.

Weaning age usually is by 6 weeks. I really dont think any dog should leave mom till 8-9 weeks. They need that time to learn from mom. JMO

puppies start the weaning process at just 2-3 weeks, when most breeders start giving pups moist/soaked food.

Puppies are finished weaning about 8-10 weeks."Some of the problems seen with pups that leave mum to early are, dog-dog aggression, wool sucking (BIG problem in Dobermans), biting much too hard in play, and lack of canine "etiquette."

Can that be taught by allowing her time with our other dogs? (Supervised of course) She spends quite a bit of time with my dane.
