HELP! Excessive gas problem!

This is my first time posting on this forum! I am usually on the Horse Forum but I have a major dog issue! My dog, who has always had a sensitive stomach, was recently diagnosed with Addison's Disease. One of the side affects is not eating. So, we have been pretty much feeding him table food to get him to eat as per vet's instruction. Now, I am trying to find a canned dog food to mix with his dry food that he will eat, but will not cause excessive, SMELLY gas!!! UGH! It is so awful...we went through this when we first got him and after a year of trying different foods, found a dry food that he would EAT, and not give him the gas and diahrrea.

So, does anyone have any ideas as to why he has this problem with canned foods? Is it carbs? I don't understand why it happens with all canned and not certain dry. We tried all the premium foods and he either had the gas etc, or he wouldn't even eat it! It has to be fairly easy to mix with the dry, cuz if it is chuncks, he will pick them out . I tried mixing in table food, but he picks it out. And if I add like ground beef, if he can't pick it out, he won't eat it. All he needs is like a couple of tablespoons so I can coat the dry food.

Any ideas?

Fat causes "stinky" gas. Why not boil up some chicken breast or make yourself some nice homemade chicken soup. Take several cups of the broth and stick it in the fridge overnight. The fat will float to the surface.

Remove it, add some vegtables (Frozen is good) and throw the whole thing in the blender. Now you have a food topper which is not filled with junk and should not give gas and your dog will like.

Hmmm. That's sounds do-able. Fat gives the gas huh? Thanks.

try giving a tablespoon of yogurt ( plain), twice a day it will help with gas problems and aid in digestion...

I took a chicken breast and boiled it then put it my food processor with some fat-free chicken broth and made a paste-like consistently. For the past 2 meals I have added this with more chicken broth to his dry food. So far so good. He is eating his food and no gas! Thanks a lot for the suggestion.
