Pet Food Industry-for Gullible Pet Owners

I am constantly amazed that in this day and age people are still so gullible to believe in all the claims made by the pet food industry; when all the information is literally at your fingertips you still choose to pay top money for so-called "premium foods" in the belief that you are doing the best you can for your pets.
For the sake of our pets it is well about time that you open your eyes and start making an effort for the welfare of your pets; I know that some people would much rather take the quicker route and simply open a bag of dry food, pour it in a bowl and bingo all the hard work is done; NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

Here is another link that explains the truth about the pet food industry and the rubbish that is being used to make premium foods.

That's about all I do, except mix in a little canned and Omega three oil. If you are feeding a quality dry food, what else do you think people should be doing?

I think you are missing the point here; you obviously haven't read the link so hence you are still very trusting; the point here is that these so-called "premium foods" are not quality foods at all but contain all the rubbish that we humans can't utilise; to each their own, I just want to inform pet owners out there that may not be aware of what is truly going on to at least make an informed decision without paying top money for sh##!

While I agree with you that most commercial food is definitely not good and I do have my girl on the RAW diet now and have no intentions on ever going back to commercial food I do think it is a personal choice.

I didn't read the article, I will when I have more time, but I presume you are talking about the RAW/BARF diet, and it isn't for everyone.
I believe it is important for everyone to do their own research and go with what is best for their own pets. Instead of educating I found that your post came off as negative but that may just be my perception of it.

Don't get me wrong, like I said I agree with you about commercial foods I just don't see what your post will achieve, apart from offending people who have already made a conscious decision to feed it. We are all entitled to make our own decisions and most people are very capable of doing that, there is no need to be judgemental. Educating people and helping them learn about it is different and I do think that is a good idea, just the way you worded your posts was kind of rude.

That's just my opinion though.

Lilly's owner - how would you rather I word it? lol. I am not going to beat around the bush and I don't think people should take offence to anything that is said, surely people are more mature than that. I said it the way I see it, would you rather I sugar coat everything that I feel needs saying? it is the truth after all and I know that I myself prefer people that are direct and to the point.

As I said, it does surprise me that the pet food industry continues to thrive and make billions of dollars annually; I wasn't out to offend people, it just surprises me that people believe all that is said about this industry....

You say that my post will be offensive to those that have made a conscious decision to feed their dogs commercial food - I'm sorry but I do find that contradictory as how can one make a conscious decision without having looked into it and researched the ingredients that are used? lol.

Word it however you like.

However there are numerous posts and thread on here where people try to educate and inform people without being judgemental.

Most people here have done their research and have decided on the diet that best suits them and their pets, that doesn't necessarily have to be a non-commercial diet.

"For the sake of our pets it is well about time that you open your eyes and start making an effort for the welfare of your pets; I know that some people would much rather take the quicker route and simply open a bag of dry food, pour it in a bowl and bingo all the hard work is done; NOT GOOD ENOUGH" that seemed negative to me. Maybe I am wrong and I was reading too much into it but what I find is that when generalisations such as that are made it isn't going to encourage people to look into other options.

I don't like it when people judge me for feeding Lilly the RAW diet and I just saw it the same way.

Like I said I agree with you, I will never feed Lilly or any other dogs I have a commercial diet again but I think there are better ways to inform people than that.

But whatever I don't want to argue with you, I do agree that people should do their own research and decide on a better diet than most of the commercial food out there but what you have to realise is that it is not for everyone.

I certainly don't think you should hide the facts or anything like that.

You were just being a bit presumptuous and making generalisations with some of your statements, that's all I was saying. No offense was intended.

actually, the article isn't about raw as far as i can see... looks like an ad / purchase website for the life's abundance and flint river brands - shockingly the 2 brands they highlight at the bottom as being "good" for dogs.

I'd like to lay the blame with the Veterinarians. They take royalties for selling the so called premium foods in their office and often only know what they are told by the manufacturer about what the ingredients are. When challenged they come up with some such argument that they have researched the specific brand and it meets all the doggie requirements, yea right, just like a bag of potato chips and a vitamin meets all the nutritional requirements of kids. Come on! How much is just plain greed rather than the welfare of the dog. Sure there are threads and links by the thousands and we are educating as many people as we can. Though most that will listen still don't think that the food is that bad for their dog because he's thriving on it. It's the same with the vitamin K3 (Menadione), banned for human consumption but ok'd by AAFCO for dogs??? What's wrong with this picture.

It comes down to what works for the dog and owner.

I was just curious as to why the link I put up was deleted? I was quite surprised and I was wondering if the link was about a particular brand of dog food whether it would have been deleted also?
