This is Orion hes a 13 month old boy in our rescue.i'v posted about him a few other times. He's been with us for quite some time now,but I still have high hopes for this boy.The more i look around at diffrent dane rescues the more im starting to see a pattern. There are more black danes in rescue than any of the other dane colors.why? black is a "common" color in most peoples eyes, nobody wants to have a giant black lab,right?...sad really, when you make the descian to RESCUE a dog in need, should looks really be #1 on your list?
I happen to LOVE black danes,a well bred black dane is an incredible sight.but,i understand, most daes in rescue arn't well-bred. a poor tempered, uncropped harlequin or fawn would be adopted out so much faster than a cropped sweet natured black dane. what really is upsetting to me is that big black goofy boy you see in the picture...he is a sweet dog, such a goofy loving boy,he has tons of charactor and is a all around wonderful great dane.but he has somthing against him...his color. at a recent event we had at the rescue so many people came up to orion fell in love with his personality but when we asked if they were interested in adopting, they would shrug it off and say somthing lik "no..i dont want a black dog..too common..what about that harlequin over there?" i know not everyone is like this,i know there are plenty of people who would open there doors up in a heartbeat to any dog in need, but what has the world come to when a dog cant find its forever home because they are too "common".it honestly makes no sense too me...it probly never will.im not the only one who has noticed it either heres a cute story written about black danes in rescue written by the an ohio dane rescue.
