I have an itchy puppy :(

My 12 week old puppy seems to be itchy all over. I haven't found any fleas or any bumps of any sort on him. The vet says it's most likely because it's cold out, and he is getting dry skin. Does anyone know of any remedies for this, preferably natural ones?

What are you feeding him? I would first look to what he is eating then i would look around your house do you have carpet? What do you use to wash blankets or bedding in?

IF it's not allergies and it's just dry skin problems, then I would use only doggy oatmeal shampoos and conditioners on him. And, ask your vet about an additive to put in his food. We use essential fatty acid oil by VET. Don't know if that's o.k. for puppies though.

Also, regular brushing helps distribute the skin oils better.

What kind of dog do you have?

well, natural remedies huh I would say Omega 3 would be your best bet for itchy skin. Usually found in Fish.. you could give 1/2 sardine in a can if you wish and just watch for any loose stools or vomiting if pupy isn't used to human food. That once a week should clear up anything your pup has. ( itchy skin wize). You can also bath in a soothing oatmeal shampoo that might also help. You can also get Omega 3 fatty acids via a vet ( pill or liquid), as mentioned in the post before me =)

That's a great question, lol, because I don't really know. I'm pretty sure he's part Shar-Pei, but he's mixed with something big. He's 30 pounds as of today. There are pictures in my other post about him, here: http://www.prodoggroomingsupplies.co...ad.php?t=14121

and some good pictures of his face, here: {link removed by Dax}

I also heard that some dog's oil glands aren't completely developed until they're 4 months old, but I don't know if that's true or not.

So what are you feeding? If iys just dry skin then it could be caused my the heating in your house, a lot of dogs suffer from this in the winter because heating dries out the skin, if it is a allergy that there are a lot of things you need to look at
