Question questions for breeders

i have a few questions for those of you who breed.some might be dumb, but id like to know. thanks.

when you sell a puppy on a spay/neuter contract how do you insure that the new owner has spayed/neuterd the puppy by the date you appointed. do you just call them and take their word for it,or do you have them send you vet records proving they have?

have you ever had a problem with someone not following the contract he/she signed?

when you sell a puppy to a show home is it best to co-own the dog?

most good breeders have websites.if you dont have a website, how do you advertise you kennel? if you do have a website whats the best way to let people know about it?

do you ship your pups or sell out of state? why or why not.

lots of questions i know lol but all answers will be greatly appreciated thanks

Don't some breeders hold the registration paperwork until they receive proof of neuter?

I keep in contact with all my puppy people ,and I also ask for conformation from the vet to make sure the puppy is spayed/neuered on time.

have you ever had a problem with someone not following the contract he/she signed?

I have not had any problems with a puppy person not doing what is written in the contract(if contract is breeched the person owes me 10 times what they payed for the puppy, plus the puppy back.

when you sell a puppy to a show home is it best to co-own the dog?

Co-owning is only done if they want me to show the puppy, and the only reason I do it is to show in the Bred by class.Co-owning is not always good because if the dog bites someone the owner and co-owner can be sued,

most good breeders have websites.
if you dont have a website, how do you advertise you kennel? if you do have a website whats the best way to let people know about it?

I myself do not have a web site,I don't breed to sell puppies.I breed for myself and then place the rest.I never advertize as I don't care if I end up keeping all the puppies.I do have waiting lists for puppies and adults that are done showing.

do you ship your pups or sell out of state? why or why not.

I will not ship a puppy.I want them all where I can go and see them.

One of my first questions is "who is your veternarian?" I call that vet and see how they took care of previous pups, I also let the vetrinarians know that by the age of 6 months I want this dog fixed, and if I contact them at that time will they tell me if it is or not? (Some vets will NOT realease this kind of info, unless owner signs a relsease form.

have you ever had a problem with someone not following the contract he/she signed?

No

when you sell a puppy to a show home is it best to co-own the dog?

depends, is it a well known kennel/owner/handler who I respect? Than no, I will send the pup on it's way. If it's someone I don't know yes, I request a co-own had one situation where I woman bought a show quality pup from Nika's first litter and showed the pup twice lost both times and stopped showing her. Becouse I co-owned her and the woman had signed a contract she had to continue showing her.

most good breeders have websites.if you dont have a website, how do you advertise you kennel? if you do have a website whats the best way to let people know about it?

We do not have a website, all our pup sales are via word of mouth and repeat customers.

do you ship your pups or sell out of state? why or why not.

Yes I will sell them to out of state but I DO NOT ship, I want to meet these families, not just talk to them over the phone.

Hope that helps!

I have never had any problem with contracts and do not co own due to insurance reasons as stated earlier. But I do stay in contact with my puppys, I am available 24/7 and for their whole life.
No website mostly word of mouth. I sell out of state but never ship. I too like to meet the people who want my pups. And I have turned away people, pugs are not for everyone

I hang on to the papers

have you ever had a problem with someone not following the contract he/she signed?
Yes, but it wasn't with the spay/neuter contract. It was with keeping the dog inside as opposed to outside...I took the dog back on the spot!

most good breeders have websites.if you dont have a website, how do you advertise you kennel? if you do have a website whats the best way to let people know about it?
I do searches concerning the breed I have and then post my site or litters, if there are any available. The majority of my dogs are sold through my website. The rest are either word of mouth, referrals or repeat customers.
Before the website, I made business cards (still use them) and posted them in sporting goods stores.

do you ship your pups or sell out of state? why or why not.
Yes, I do ship. Again, because most of my pups are through the website, I have customers throughout the states. So many of the pups are sold a year before they're born, so I get to know the new owners quite well before the mom is even bred. I go through American Airlines. They take the best care of the pups...I've tried others and they treat the dogs like a piece of luggage. With AA, they treat them as if they were their own dogs and take them out to play with before the flights and on lay-overs.
