food reps at Petsmart

I was out running errands on Saturday and had to run into Petsmart to get a couple things. I was reading labels of dog food when a Nutro rep walked up to me and began asking me if I feed my dogs nutro. I replied that I used to but switched to a higher quality food with no corn and more meat. Well, that set her off! She grabbed a bad of nutro and began reading the ingredients to me. I have read the bag before and was getting a bit irritated but the lady was an older lady and I didnt' want to disprespect her or be rude so I let her ramble.

I explained how i wanted something with meat in at least two of the first 3 ingredients and she insisted that it takes 5 lbs of lamb meat to make 1lb of lamb meal. she just kept on, I kept trying to politely leave her but no, she followed me. I finally explained to her that I was not going tofeed her brand of food and had to hurry and finish shopping. The rep followed me aisle after aisle. when I would grab a food to look at it she would have something smartass to say like "you wanna give your dogs dyes?" or "why not just feed your dog food coloring?"

I was so irritated! I finally ditch the lady and am just about to select the type of food i was going to get when a man walked up and asked me if I needed any help. I said no thank you. I guess in dog food world that means yes, please irritate me! He proceeded to tell me that Bil-jac was a great food and when I explained I won't feed food with corn in it he replied that bil-jac's food processes corn differently so it's harmless to dogs. (it's the third ingredient) He kept irritating me and arguing with me about corn not being harmful to dogs and even claimed several dogs with corn allergies do great on biljac. He even went on to claim that most vets want people to buy the vet's food so they made up the whole corn allergy thing!

I finally had to get rude and told him not to worry about what my dogs eat! I will never go to Petsmart again. I have written a letter to the management about the harassment so we'll see what happens. All in all it took me almost 4o min just to get dog food! (and that's without my usual browsing)

ok, thanks for the vent!

wow that sounds like some rude employees Nikki! I woulda walked away and if they followed I would have told them to shove it. I went thru and looked at all of their dog food a couple weeks ago and no one bothered me at all. I don't blame ya about complaining though.

i can't believe that!! i am sorry but i had to stop laughing before i could type this! the only reason i am laughing is because i went through the exact same thing at my petsmart it was the nutro lady following me around isle after isle i finally had to say against my better judgment. " look lady i am no more likely to feed your crappy food to my dogs than i am to feed it to myself." i do feel kinda bad but that is going way to far. i hope your letter stops the crazy sample ladies!

ya, it blew my mind. I have always been taught to respect my elders so I was trying very hard not to be rude but they pushed it too far!

I used to get that too! Whenever I went into the petstore they would try to sell me some sort of food. When I told them Lilly doesn't eat commercial dog food they would lecture me and get really rude. Finally I'd had enough and I told them that. Now when I go in they all stay away from me. It was very annoying though!!

I just tell them my dogs are on prescription foods from my vet (which is true for Bogey and Miko)

Wow... I can see how you would be irritated by that. I hate salespeople who won't take no for an answer.

It's nice that they are there and trying to convince people who feed their dogs kibbles and bits to switch to a better food...

but pushing and being rude like that... no way, I would have let management know.

Holy cow. Talk about harassment.

I wouldn't have been half as tolerant as you. People just aren't going to tell me how to handle & take care of my dog. That's my job. I'd definitely contact management.
