Canine Good Citizen Certification

Has anyone taken these tests. I am considering having Ariel take the test this weekend even though we haven't practiced a few of the tests. There is a huge dog show Friday, Saturday & Sunday which I want to go to.

That only leaves about 4 days to practice. What do you think?

Talking CKC - CGN Program

Here are the 12 tests
1. Accept a friendly stranger. (NO PROBLEM)
2. Accept petting from friendly stranger (NO PROBELM)
3. Allow Grooming from non-handler - toes, ears & brush top/sides (feet- she might iniate play)
4. Walkon loose lead (NO PROBLEM)
5. Walk thru crowd (depends on her mood - mostly OK)
6. Sit or Down stay (2 minutes down/stay)
7. Come when called (slow but reliable)
8. Stop play - most be calmable after a few minutes of play (NO PROBLEM)
9. Reaction to passing dog - requires two handlers to meet , shake hands speak with dogs showing little interest in each other (NO IDEA IF SHE CAN OR NOT)
10. Reaction to distractions (NO PROBLEM WITH BIKES, JOGGERS, OR PASSING DOGS BUT WORRY ABOUT BABY CARRIAGES, WHEELCHAIRS)
11. Supervised Isolation - needs to be left with trusted person without whining (VERY IFY - SHE WHINES BUT NOT IN EXCESS)
12. Walking thru door/gate - must let handler go thru first (NEVER TRIED USUALLY I WAIT TIL SHE'S THRU TO CLOSE GATES, ETC).

This is what she needs to do - three make me nervous.

I'm going to take her to the show on Friday and see how see reacts as Dog Shows are supposed to be organized chaos.

Wish us luck

I have had my two that died CGC tested. They both passed with flying colors. Practice on the supervised isolation, if you think she will whine. A couple of yips are not a problem, if it gets out of hand they will not pass you. But have some one take her that knows her but not someone that lives in the house or that she knows extremely well. And go completely out of sight, not just around the corner or in a different room. And practice this off your property in a strange area since that will be more like the testing atmosphere.

As far as walking through a crowd, you must have here attention because if she lunges in the smallest way toward another person, they will not pass you. You can talk to your dog all you want during the test.

You can give your dog more than one command on a sit, down and stay but you can not physically place them in the position.

Take the test. What is the worse thing that can happen? You might have to take it again. Oh well.
