Ideas For Homemade Treats?

Anyone make their own homemade treats like cookies and/or biscuits for their puppies? We have been feeding Polly (9mos) & Penni (3mos) "Freeze Dried Ice Cream" and "Waggin' Train Chicken Jerky" they love these. I was just curious if anyone makes their own treats. Regards, Hansel

I have a book about it, let me see if I can find any. Did you have any particular flavors in mind?

I was thinking peanut butter, vanilla and cheese. Recipe Book recommendations will be great too. Thanks for your response.

I found a site that has LOTS of different treats to make and links to other treats. Some of the things really sound good. I am going to have to try some of the liver ones out on Penny because she LOVES liver. I am sending you a PM with the link so you can check out the site.

there is a local bakery - they call it their "barkery" - that make all sorts of home made treats for animals. i really wished they sold online so i could let folks know about them.

Here are a couple from my three dog bakery cook book
Cheddar Liver Biscuts
Ingredients
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup whoe-wheat flour
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
2 tbl spoons butter
3/4 cup milk
Liver powder (see below)

Preheat oven to 375f.
Put flours and cheese into food processor. Pulse to mix. Add butter and milk. Mix well. Turn out onto a floured surface and roll out to 1/4-inch to 1/2 inch thickness. Poke with tines of fork and sprinkle with liver powder (or garlic powder or parmesan cheese). Cut into shapes with cookie cutters. Place on greased baking sheet. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown.
To make liver powder, use the food processor to pulverize freeze-dried liver treates into a fine powder. Parmesan cheese or garlic powder can be substituted for liver in the topping if desired

Liver & Oat Cookies

Ingredients
1 1/4 cups quick oats
1/4 cup non-fat dry milk
1/4 cup wheat germ
1/2 pound beef or chicken liver
1/4 cup safflower oil
1 large egg

Preheat oven to 350 f. Combine dry ingredients in a large bowl. Puree liver in a food processor. Scoop liver out of food processor into the bowl of dry ingredients. Add oil and egg. Mix with a spoon to cooki-dough consistency. Drop batter by the teaspoonfull onto well-greased baking sheet, 1 inch apart. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, until cookies are firm to the touch. Turn off oven and let cookies harden inside for 1 to 2 hours or overnight.

2 cups all purpose flour
1 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/4 tsp.garlic powder
1/2 c. vegetable oil
4 - 5 Tbsp. water

Combine everything except water. Whisk in food processor until consistancy of cornmeal. Then add water until mixture forms a ball. Roll it into 1/2" thickness and cut into shapes. Bake on ungreased cookie sheets about 10 min. (depending on size of shapes) at 400. Cool and store in refrigerator.

Boil water in a saucepan. Add oats and butter. Let oats soak for ten minutes. Stir in the cornmeal, sugar, salt, milk, peanut butter, and egg. Mix thoroughly. Add the flour, one cup at a time (you may not need the entire amount) until a stiff dough forms.

Knead dough on floured surface until smooth, about 3 minutes. Roll to 1/2" thickness. Place on a greased cookie sheet.
Glaze:
1 large egg
2 tbsp. milk

Mix well. Brush glaze on dough with a pastry brush. Bake in a pre-heated 325 degree oven for 35-45 minutes or until golden brown. Cool completely

Great post Moo. They sound yummy enough to eat. I am going to try them on my puppy and see if he loves them.
