Red face Sleeping through the night

So, Roslynd is about 13 months old. She has been sleeping in the bed with me and my husband since she was about 5 months old, before that she wa sin her crate (which didn't work out at all....long story!!) Anyway, she still gets up at least once a night to go potty.... sometimes twice (like last night ). I am the main person who walks her (surprise suprise) and I am always sure to have her pee and p.oop before we go to bed (usually around 11:00 or so) but she still gets up everynight between 3 and 5 to potty. I have tried telling her to lay back down, go to sleep, I have tried ignoring her, all that. Is there anyway for me to get her to sleep through the night now.... or is she "too old" and I am doomed to getting up every night for the rest of Roslynd's pretty little life????

Does she still have free access to water all night? If so try taking it away from her at least 2-3 hours before her normal bed time, unless of course you have been having the same kind of weather we have been, 90's and horribly humid. I truely feel, that if she hasn't had any or much water before bed time and she is let out right before, she should be able to make it through the night. So it might just take some will power to ignore her attempts at waking you. Has she ever made it through the night? How often does she have to go during the day?

Maybe you could put in a doggie door. I put one in when my shepard got sick and she could no longer hold it all nite. I would never go back. The dog can go in and out when they have to.

I don't know you're area and if it would be safe for her but they even have ones where the dog has a radio collar that unlocks in.

We have talked about taking her water up, but it has been extremely hot and humid, and she always drinks a lot of water.... especially now that we got the new puppy. She goes a lot during the day... every few hours or so. Yeas, she has made it through the night before... when she is extremely tired, she won't wake up for anything, but other than that it is every night.....

I have thought about a doggie door... but we don't have a fenced yard.... we are ALWAYS outside when she is, she tends to wander when if supervised LOL... very birdie girl!!

Dax, I am in Maine, not too dangerous, and my neighborhood is relatively quiet, but I don't know if I would feel comfortable with the doggie door... it is somethign to think about, though, cuz we are planning on a fence in the future (when we have kids).

Thanks guys!!!

Have you tried second nature dog litter? Check out the product at:

<http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=25343743 02023689&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302032890&PR ODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441776094&bmUID=1090604830 280>

It seems like an alternative solution to your having to get up ever so often. Not sure whether it would work for big dogs as the max size is 35 pounds (and it's not a replacement for a walk of course) but it might work till the doggie door is installed. What do you think?

Weimlover, you're not alone, we have the same thing with Ellie, she is 3 now but still can't hold all night, what we ended up doing is remove her from water during the night, feed her at about 5pm no later, let her out as late as possible, 11pm normally, and my hubby is up at 5.30am every morning. I know how you feel, getting up, nothing like a cold wet nose in the face at 3am or so is there?
