Yearly Vaccines- To Do or Don't??

Hi there Everyone! Hope everyone is having a good week so far

I know we had a thread like this awhile back but I can't seem to find it.
Here is my question....
Are yearly vaccines really needed if the dog is mostly an inside dog?
Should I be filling my dog full of unneccisary drugs if he might not even need it? My dog had all his puppy shots, rabies etc. It is now a year later and I have recieved the usually "postcard" in the mail from my vet.

I'm a believer of "natural healing" if possible. I don't get the flu shot myself and seem to do fine every year, I just eat healthy and take care of myself. I do the same for my furbaby and he's happy and healthy.

I think shots for dogs under the age of 2 should be done yearly. I think as the dog ages some shots aren't needed. I don't think it has anything to do with being an inside or an outside dog.

I lost a dog once to distemper as a kid and I would never want to lose another. As long as my dogs aren't having negative reactions, I'll continue with all shots as recommended by my vet.

Rabies is mandatory around here so that has to be done.

I think all dogs should be checked at least once a year by a vet whether they get shots or not.

Dog vaccines are not like the flu shot. They're more like smallpox or worse.

I always make sure my dogs are vaccinated against Parvo and have their rabies shot.

I feel we are over doing it with shots.People don't need shots every year.I don't feel dogs do either.
Elwood is over a year old and he has only had 1/2 a dose of his first shot.
Every year his blood will be tested and if he needs one then he will get one.
the same with rabies.The vet can sign paper stating that your dog does not need the shot.

I, like my vet I have now, are firm believers we over vaccinate. I have been doing alot of reading on this and have come to th realization that by over vaccinating Rudy as a puppy, I most likely caused his Hypo Thyroidism. I know better now.

I am lucky to have a vet that is not " stuck " in his ways and does keep abreast of all new research and sciences that are out an have come out.

We vaccinte every three years and for some vaccinations that is too much. The only way to tell for sure is to have the dogs titers tested, that will tell you how much immunity,your dog or horse or cat for that matter, has left from the last vaccination you gave.

Around here it is manditory,to get thier shots,but I like to know they are also protected, even if they are house dogs. jackie my lab was two years old, I thought he was safe, but he got parvo, he was at the animal hosp. for three weeks. on a Iv. it cost us $500. to save him. Gee I wish I had spent the $75. to got his shots. He was a house dog.

Like usual Sandi is full of great info! I dont like the idea of over doing shots it is not healthy. My dogs get their rabies shot and booster every 3 years never had any problems but your dog still needs a check up every year.

We have too many stray animals running around from cats, dogs, squirrels, raccoons, etc. to not make sure Penny is vaccinated against rabies. I am afraid that I will give every shot that is required because if Penny died because of NOT having a required shot, it would just tear me up and I doubt I would ever be able to forgive myself.

Ok, Lady, my puppy, is getting her 12 week old vaccines next week. After that she will get them yearly until she turns 3 then she will get them every three years and so on, it's not really neccessary to overvaccinate your pet, recently studies have shown that the first three yearly vaccines is enough to immune your dog to disease for the rest of his life.
