Siberian Husky

Does anyone know why the Husky dies after being infected with Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. I am a student taking vet assistant classes. I have done tons of research and can not find the anwser. The Teacher does not know either. She has researched on it for 2 yrs. Can anyone help? Does any one know why

Since there are a lot of diseases spread by the same ticks as RMSF, it could be that there was secondary infection.

Can you tell us more about what happened.

oh I am in College taking vet assistant classes and we were talking and discussing different types of diseases and stuff. Like round worms and stuff. Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever was one of the topics and we learned that the only dog (a Sib. Hus.) does not survive if it gets RMPF. Just doing research on to why and haven't found anything on it. I was just curious if any one knew

According to this site, death can result from renal failure. It also says that untreated the illness can be fatal for all dogs not just Huskies.

I would suspect that certain breeds of dogs where ticks were more prevalent in thier early history might have stronger immunities.

Huskies and northern climate dogs may not have those immunities because ticks aren't that common up here.

Thanks for the website. I understand any dog can die from it, but no matter what u do even if you try to treat it, the S.B dies. Thanks again
