My Sahra Jane in hospital and has to stay

Do you recall when I asked about Lyme desease? The way Sahra Jane was acting I thought it staid with her after so many years. Well it wasn't that. She would yell out in pain and hold her right leg up. She wouldn't even lift her head up. Not even to catch the cookies. I took her to vet it's been a month now and she was put on Previsol for inflamation for 2 weeks. I was told if she is still hurting then she woild have to see a specialist. Well they couldn't get us in till Feb 16. But last night and today she was getting worse buy the hour so Mom n I took her emergency hosp. Did ex rays, blood work etc.
Well she has a crushed disc in her neck!!! It must of happenend when she slid down steps. That's why my vet gave her meds if she was just bruised inside. She has to stay at hospital and they are gonna start her steriods. She has to be crated and kept still at all times. There will be a surgeon there tomorrow and will go from there. This sucks.
I am so upset I wanna throw up. I pray, what if something happens at surgery? She is 10 yrs old. Her sister past last year and her father 3 yrs ago. I just can't handle this. She is gonna be so scared staying at hosp. I know it's the best thing for where she is, but still. I need the power of prayer from my friends here. Kimberly

I'm sorry to hear that. I'll keep her in my prayers! I'm sure she will be okay, dogs older than 10 have surgery all the time and are just fine. Please keep us updated and I hope everything goes alright!!

It sounds like your furbaby is in the right hands now. It's funny how animals sometimes don't show the pain that is in line with their illness/accident.

Yes, it is difficult keeping a dog crated/quiet for an extended period of time. We had to do that twice for 6 weeks after each hip replacement for our white German Shepherd. But, then all of a sudden, it was over - and yours will be, too. You wonder how you got through it, but you did.

The vet will do blood tests (may have already) to insure your dog can handle anesthesia.

My prayers are with you and Sarah Jane. Peace to you tonight.

Debbie

Thank You, She is getting a milogram today. Her crushed disc is pressing against her spinal cord. I am crazily waiting on the "CALL" from surgeon. It's only 8:15am so I am sure it will be in ahwile. I haven't slept. Hospital is probably tired of me calling every few hrs to see how she is. Kimberly

On the phone with Doc 3 times today. They are gonna wait on the milogram or steriods. Instead the gave her more ex-rays on lower lumbar. And she has severe arthritus, which I knew. But all 4 legs are affected. They say the Lumbo secrial joint does not reflect the front legs. She has lower problems in back and the crushed disc at he neck. So that is a total seperate problem from her back legs. Which they are not sure what is causing that problem. Thier taking her off the pain patch to monitor her. Thier basically taking things at a time. She may have to see a neurolologist. Which will be at another location. Oh Boy, I am so confused. I am sick. Just thought i would give an update. It's just wait an see everyday. Thanks Kimberly
