Cool help

Hello, this is my first time on and I a not sure if I am doing things right,my dog is a rescued oneand 1/2 year old and Ive been told he isgerman shepard but the longer I have him the more Ithink that he is Belgian Malinios. He tested pos for heartworm and is undergoing treatment for that.I have two full blooded german shepard females and he is nowhere near thier size and Iam having trouble getting him to eat. I have taken him to our vet and they say he is healthy just smaller framed than the girls is there any way I can find out for sure he is a Belgian, I have seen pics of both breeds and he is identical to the Belgians..thanks

I would say to do research on the Belgians and if he looks like one and has a lot of the same traits I would say that is what he is, but since you can't say he is a purebred just say he is a belgian mix. I adopted my puppy from a pound and they said he was a Sheppard mix with either collie or husky. Well he has a lot of husky traits. My puppy also won't eat. He is very picky. I have tried Gravy train because you can mix it with water to form the gravy. I also have tried pedagree and purina. My puppy seems like he is satified with Purina Puppy chow and One. If you have a Petsmart or a Petco close by take him in there to see what kind of food he likes. (I think they have samples). Or you can try pouring gravy over his food too. I hope I helped and welcome to the forum.

Here is a picture of a German Shepherd and a Malinois. Which one do you have? Both breeds are tied for second in my "favorite breeds" list.

Yes, could you post a picture for us?

German Shepherd Dogs and Belgian Malinois should be about the same height. Males, taller. But Malinois are leaner, and therefore ligher.

Neither Purina nor Pedigree is a very decent food. So even if he does eat them, he probably isn't getting a whole lot of nutrients out of them.... I wouldn't feed the gravy stuff either, even as a topper.

Look at the ingredients in that number! Yuck! Kirby gets better health benifits when he eats carpet fuzz.

Quote:
Corn
soybean meal
beef and bone meal
animal fat
animal digest
salt
cellulose gum
caramel color
potassium chloride
bone phosphate
choline chloride

Purina has been is bussiness make food for many years. They also make a quality horse feed that a lot of breeders feed. I think they kind of know how to make feed. I also did some research of Purina and Innova. They have about 80% of the same ingredents. I didn't think that lamb, rice, poultry, yogurt, calcium, phophorus, Vitamin A and E were bad for dogs. Because that is what Purina One and Innova have in there foods. Also Purina, Alpo, Ol' Roy, Pedigree, and Store brands are the only dog food that is sold in my town. The speciality stores are an hour or more away so is not an option with the gas prices as they are. Purina One has helped out my puppy a lot. He was malnurished when I got him from the pound and now he has gained almost 20 lbs since I have had him. His stools are fimer, his coat and skin are very healthy, and he is full of energy. Also my vet recommended it for me and also pouring gravy on his food to make it more appealing. Cellulose gum, caramel color, potassium chloride, bone phosphate, choline chloride, soybean meal, and beef and bone meal are not in my puppy's food.

So what are the ingredents in the food you feed? I agree they are bad foods, there must be something else available to you, some on line stores do free delivery
