I have a two year old male pug. Recently, within the last couple of days, his male private part has been swollen (almost like a balloon) when he first gets up in the morning and just now when I came home from work. He seems a little lethargic. There is no blood in his urine. He was neutered when he was a pup.
I spoke to the vet and they told me to just keep an eye on him. But I am worried - thought someone may have some information. [ November 17, 2003, 04:09 PM: Message edited by: Gail ] |

Can you take him to another vet? Did your vet run any blood tests or draw any fluids?

I would get a second opinion - this sounds like it's something that needs to be checked out.

Dear Gail:
I am a veterinarian and would be happy to offer some advice. I will commonly encounter a condition of the male ***** known as prepucitis. This is a condition that occurs when the fold of skin that covers the ***** when the ***** is in the non-erectile state, develops an infection. The infection usually is brought on by the dog licking. If this contiues over the next couple of weeks, you should prbably see your vet, as anti-biotics are often needed. I hope this reply was helpful. I have just created a canine and feline veterinary advice and health management website that I would love for you to check it out and reply with any thoughts or suggestions that you think may make the site better or more useful. I would also appreciate it if you would put the word out about my site to any friends or family that you think may be interested. I also recently published a book to be released on January 11, 2004. You can see a preview of the book on my website as well. The url is http://www.askdvm.com Thanks and good luck, Roger L. Welton, DVM |
