Thumbs up Keno's story

I found this on the Minnesota Dobe rescue website, I was in tears reading this but the ending is GOOD. He looks like RUDY!!!!! :

Keno

Keno is a one year old red Dober-boy that was hit by a car in March 2004. A good Samaritan brought him to the University of Minnesota, in hopes that they would be able to help him.
The U was able to stabilize him, by giving him fluids and supportive care. They tried very hard to find his owner by calling all of the area vet clinics and animal shelters, but no one came forward. Our organization was contacted to see if we could take him, and find a way to get him the medical treatment that he desperately needed.
After a number of X-rays were taken, it was determined that Keno had shattered both of his front legs, broken his pelvis in several places, and crushed the L7 vertebrae in his lower back. Although very painful, his broken pelvis was not a serious issue and the front legs could be repaired through surgery.
The most problematic injury was his crushed vertebrae, as this type of injury could leave Keno unable to walk, or be permanently incontinent. It was impossible to tell what Keno’s prognosis would be, as his broken front legs prevented him from being able to stand up and show us if he was still able to use his rear end.

After much discussion and a consultation with Steve Martin of Special Needs Dobermans who would help us raise the necessary funds, we decided to go ahead with the surgery.
The surgery went very well, and Keno is now sporting a hardware store full of metal plates, screws and wires to hold his demolished front legs together.
Imagine our thrill and excitement when it was discovered that Keno could actually stand up the day after surgery and even attempted to walk a step!
After many weeks of rest and recuperation, Keno was adopted by a wonderful family where he now has a new sister to play with.
Keno (who has since been renamed Leroy) continues to improve, and although it's likely that he will have some problems with arthritis when he gets older, he should be able lead a long and happy life.
We are very pleased to report that with our fundraising efforts and donations from generous supporters, Dobeman Rescue Minnesota was able to pay back Special Needs Dobermans, so that they'll be able to use the money to help another needy Doberman.
Thanks to everyone who helped give Keno a Happy Ending!

Yeah ,what a great story!!!!

Donations are so important to these places, without them a good young , otherwise healthy dog would have been PTS, now he is almost as good as new and leading the life he deserves

Your right donations are the key!
So many people think rescue has an open check book, and we as volunteers are paid employees!
I put more time and money into rescue then I have!
Its worth doing when you hear all the good stories, but its so hard when you have the heart breaks!
