OMG! Charlie is FAT!
OMG!!!! I can't belive it! My mom took her dog to the vet today and he weighs a whopping 30.5 pounds!!! He is supposed to be 23!!!! He is on a diet food, he gets carrots as treats, and he gets more exercise then he has ever gotten in his life... HOW!!?? How is he gaining weight? OY! Now, I have to figure out how to drop the pounds off him. That's why he is limping, the extra weight. I don't get it, though. He has been dieting since we got him!

Maybe something else is up? I might be way off, but could something be outta wack with his thyroid? I'm sure there are other reasons but I'm neither a vet nor a vet tech. I just know thyroid in humans can help gain or lsoe weight.

Yep, could be Thyroid, that is what happened with Rudy. Rudy gained wieght no matter what we did to try and keep it off him. He was at 96 LB and he is suppose to be 75LB. He is at 73 right now which is ok

I forgot to ask if the vet checked his thyroid. If so, our vet has to send all samples out, so it will be a while before we get them back. He doesn't have any other symptoms of hypothyroid though. My lab/kusvas mix had thyroid problems for years. I remember his coat was always so weird. Although he did have kusvas in him, lol.

Put a leash on him while you eat, whenever he jumps up, give him a tug on the leash to push him down. You can also teach him a solid sit. Make sure he KNOWS that sit means SIT! He can't get up, he can't blow off the command. Use a training collar if needed.

He must be pretty chubby. I had Kimi to the vet yesterday for her year check up and the vet told me she was 1/2-1 pound over weight at 14.5 pounds! I can't imagine twice that size. I do remember my breeder telling me that you have to be really careful with their weight especially with the MVD predispostion, as they do pork out.
Good luck to your mom. Maybe it is a thyroid problem... |

This might sound crazy but having at one time been a diet fanatic I have seen it be true for humans maybe dogs?? Are you sure the Diet food you have him on is suitable for him? Some humans do better on high carbo diets as it keeps their body burning sugar quickly helping the motabilism (spelling?) But there are a lot of people who need a low carbo diet because their pancreas just cant burn it as quikly. Have you tried switching him to a different diet f
