questions about dog in heat

My dog has jus got her first 'Heat' today, she stays inside so we put an old underwear and a pad on her so she doesnt get blood all over the place, i was just wondering if there is anything that i have to do to help clean her or if she should just lick it her self? and if there is anything else that i should do to make sure nothing goes wrong, or infected

What type of dog? Long or short hair?

She will keep herself pretty clean, you might call your groomer and let them know she is in season and ask if they will give her a bath in about 7- 10 days.

You can buy female dog sanitary panties, however most girls will take care of themselves.

Your most important job is too keep her inside, DO NOT let her out of your site, even for a SECOND! Even if she normally stays in the yard on her own she will wander and look for a male.

You can have her spayed while she is in heat, however I would reccmoend waiting untill about 2 weeks after she goes out of heat.

Hi, think it be best to let her lick herself clean. Also you shouldent leave the underwere on for to long as she will need too clean herself when she feels she needs too. And, someone once told me it could couse them not to bother to clean them selfs if its left on for to long.

Yep she should take care of her self, and i agree with rottiegirl, your bigest problem is keeping her safe

Get some regular doggie diapers they work great. Stay in place as they drip all over the place, mine do I would be nuts if in the house in heat, keep in garage on tile floor I can mop up as they bleed alot some of them.
The heat last 21 days coming in swelling, then drips, then going out is when u want to be careful, first drop of blood u see count on a calendar as day one, 2, 3 , etc. Mark them down and do not let her near a dog on tenth day on till out when blood as turned to almost white, wipe with white klennex or tissue. Good luck honey

Oh, forgot your other questions, just wipe her with baby wipes if your using diapers I recommend during the drip stage, she will not get infected, let her out to pee and poo, but on those going out days put her on a leash do not even tie her out as a male smells this some three mile away and it takes only seconds for him to grab hold of her and its all over..............
