grooming costs question

I am planning on adopting an adult cocker spaniel and wondering what I should expect to pay in Maryland for a puppyclip and how often I would have to have it done? Years ago I used to have a shih tzu, are the coats more difficult than theirs? I didn't find it too hard to keep up with and don't remember what it cost to have them cut down every couple of months. Also, how do you find a kind groomer, don't want it to be abused or treated roughly Thanks for any help

First of all, welcome Now, I am a groomer in IL, so the price will be different. I suppose in your area it will be higher as I am in a rural town. Most groomers here charge around $30 for a clip[ down on Cockers. Next, is there a problem with groomers there? The majority of us are animal lovers and treat them as our own, so I guess you would want to talk to people you know that take their dog to be clipped. Word of mouth is the best reference. Last, the Shih tzu coat is totally different than Cocker Spaniel. Hope I could be of help

well im from the uk so i guess it will be alot diffrent we charge £16 for a cocker and also for a shihtzu.

finding a new groomer i would surgest that u go around visit alll the diffrent groomers, and ask if u can watch while they do a dog and c how they act with the dogs and with customers. it is a pain having ppl watching it makes me worry so much but it is good for peace of mind but we have a 2 very large windows so ppl can c what we r doing 247 or i would try going to a dog club nr u and ask ppl there there experiences.

I find that most groomers charge $30-50 .. more or less. Grooming is a pricey thing.. but it's worth it if you find the right groomer. I love the way the doggies smell after grooming.. it's yummy!

My groomer charges 25.00 for Miko (4 pounds) and 30.00 for Bogey (12 -14 pounds). They are both Poodles so there is some detail clipping involved.

Whenever we move and are looking for a groomer and find one we're seriously considering (I agree, word of mouth is best), I ask if I can just hang around the first time the dogs get groomed. I stay way out of the way, but it gives me some comfort.

You can go to PetSmart and see your dog getting clipped. You can't see them get washed or dried though.
