New member-food question
Hi everyone. I, like many others, am so confused over dog food. My 4-5 yo rescue Boston Terrier had a bout of vomiting and bloody diarrhea over the weekend requiring a trip to the ER vet clinic. Nothing was discovered and he was started on flagyl. As of last night, he hasn't had any diarrhea or vomiting. He is currently eating Hill's prescription Canine i/d until he's feeling better. Before this, he was eating Purina Pro-plan Lamb and Rice with cooked, unseasoned chicken breast added. I don't know what to feed him know. I would like to mix a HIGH QUALITY dry kibble with some chicken or beef added if needed. Also, I want to feed him a low-fat diet just in case there was any pancreatitis involved, and he is a tad overweight. What do you recommend?

Whats wrong with sticking with I/D?
Did you do a fecal? Any parasites? Or just sensitive stomach? I'd be careful with the chicken. Maybe allergies? For losing weight -- either try lamb (leaner meat) or go to diet type foods. Also, try feeding less and putting veggies on top to fill them up. |

there are alot of different opinions here on the "best" food.
basically, look for a food in your price range that - 1) does not contain BHA or BHT 2) does not have an ingredient list that starts with corn, wheat, or grains 3) does not have unidentified or unspecific ingredients - i.e. - "meat by-products" or "animal tallow" if you follow those above, you're on the right track for picking a good food |

i use I/d on my dogs specially when they have a tummy problem, or if its comming out the other end. Its a good food, and if it works for your pup now, why change? Your choice of dog food is whatever works for YOUR dog.
