I'm doing this wrong

I bought some frozen chicken necks from G&E because I ran into the raw feeding supplier on Saturday. So I just gave the dogs one each. Ariel chewed off some from the ends and swallowed the rest whole. Merlin looks like he lined his up and swallowed it.

These things were still frozen and not chewed up... HELP raw feeders. I don't think that's what is supposed to happen. Should I be expecting both dogs to vomit chicken neck bones? Do dogs get Brain Freeze?

I gave my dogs Turkey Necks -slightly thawed. There was no bone in it, they ate it entirely.

Weezy walked away fine until 9 hours later.. with severe diarrhea and vomiting (but no bones). And Ollie was FINE.

Louise has a sensitive stomach, that I need to adhere by a little bit better. But Ollie was just fine.

The necks I gave them were practically frozen too

Hey Dax I would not venture into RAW before researching especially chicken because of the bird flu. I would be scared to death to feed my dogs chicken bones and all, honestly I would and I am pretty daring but this scares me to death especially in puppies. Hope they are ok and digest this without problems. I would stick with my dry kibble and whatever else you feed, I would not change to raw right now for safety reasons and research it more so as u need steamed veggies and a bunch of stuff, it is quite costly if done properly. Good luck honey and protect those Rottys well...............

I agree with Sheplovr, i think more research is required when venturing to the RAW side of things. But, just watch for any signs of distress, and if none are present than all should be well. =) good luck

I'm not planning on converting to raw yet. These were as treats for the dogs. I have been giving marrow bones for years without issue.

I have no worry about the avian flu as these are local birds.

Yea, I don't do BARF either, the turkey necks were for a treat as well! We must think alike Dax.

I just hope our dogs don't think alike I really wanted Weez to like it, she might have.. but her tummy didn't.

Giving raw chicken necks without researching is absolutely fine and there is no reason to be concerned about them getting bird flu because of it. Plus if you were going to feed them a raw diet they'd have raw vegetables - not steamed.

Lilly gulps her food down too and she has done that with chicken necks, she was fine. I didn’t even notice any problems with her.

In the future you can hold the edge of the bone and make sure they chew it better or you can try crunching it up for them until they get the hang of it.
You should call your vet if you are worried but I think they will both be fine! They might be a bit sick but other than that I don’t think there will be any problems.

So far so good. Everyone is interested in breakfast. No little neck bones with yesterday's dinner to be found on my carpet. Everyone seems happy.

The real test will be if they poop them out.

We can't get chicken necks over here so I can't advise for personal experience. They probably did chew them, you just might not have noticed. You know what signs to look out for (you're a good mommy and you know it )

I think the key is knowing your dog and their eating habits, also feed larger dogs larger cuts, chicken legs are ok for my jacks, but not for Pearl so she gets a chicken quarter
