Unhappy He's shedding!!!!!!!!

Wrangler is shedding!!!! He's a border Collie, and he's INDOORS!!!! My Dad is SO mad about all the hair!! I swept yesterday and it helped but he's shedding so fast I need to sweep already! I had been brushing him but my brush broke so I was using a human brush and it just wasn't working!!! Well, today I baught a "rake" one of those metal ones that have the little bristles.....anyways, it's helping but I was wondering if there was anything else we could do with him to help. I saw a shampoo once that was supposed to be for "long Haired" dogs to help control shedding. Would that help? Any suggestions would be GREAT!!!!

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I use a shedding blade on Elle.. similar to the ones for horses. It's like a long butter knive with small points that pull out undercoat. You simply stroke it in swift, rough strokes and the hair comes flying out.. at least it does with everything I've tried it on. And you sweep it up once.. and usually helps for about a week.. then do it again until shedding season is over

Here's a picture of one:

I love a shedding blade! They just shouldn't be used on a coat that's not mature (approx 1 years old).

I had a GSD that shed like crazy twice a year. I'd just take him outside and use the blade (it's not really a blade). It really gets that dead undercoat out.

ok cool, I'll get one but he's not a year old until may....maybe I'll just wait until next shedding season to get it because he does still have some puppy hair on his sides.
I was thinking of getting this brush, http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...02072%3A202082 do you think it would actually work? It looks really cool to me! lol!

I have read that if your dog is shedding brush him very well, give him a shower using a bit warmer water but still comfortable and then blow dry it and then brush again... I have no idea if this will actually help. So if anyone tries it and it works let me know! Cause I will be needing these tips soon too!

I tried something similar on Cali and it didn't work real well. But, her hair is extremely thick underneath so it wasn't strong enough to get the hair out.

On a day to day basis, I use a slicker brush on her which really gets a lot of hair out, too. I just have to comb gently so I don't break or damage her hair.

It might be the same thing you're calling a rake brush.

yeah I think that's what it's called!! A "slicker brush!" I couldn't remember what they called it! I thought it was something like that! It worjs really good!! I'm trying to brush him at least twice a day(just started yesterday) and I didn't find any clumps of hair on the floor yesterday so maybe it will work!!!

Contrary to popular belief, shedding has less to do with temperature than it does with the length of the light part of the day. So animals start keeping a winter coat when the days get shorter, and they shed them out when the days get longer again. And the shorter the days are, the more coat the animal will have.

I use a shedding blade on both my horse and my dog.
