Dryer & Vaccum????

My Dog is scared to death of blow dryers and vaccums!!! I didn't know to have them around him when he was a little puppy and now he doesn't like it!!! I had him in my room the other day and I just ran the blow dryer and he was fine until I pointed it at him! I could even put it behind my back where he couldn't see it and blow it on him and he was fine but if he could see it he freaked out!! And with the vaccum, I was sweaping the floor the other day and he chases it and I took the hose of and was gonna use it on him to see what he did and he like flipped out so I just held him in my lap and held the hose beside him for a couple of minutes.

He is also scared of baths so yesterday I made him jump in the tub by himself and stay in there and I gave him biscuits and made him jump out and did that over about 7 times and he did really good but then I walked out of the room and I saw him walk into the bath room and he jumped in the tub!!! He was just checking to see if there was any biscuits!!

Elle hates the blowdriar, too. I always put it on low and I never blow it into her face. I keep it at a distance and stroke her during the process. She usually sits with her ears back and looks uncomfortable.

Try re-starting your introducing with your dog. Introduce him slowly to the hair driar. Try putting it on low and letting it run while on its side on the floor. If your dog shows any interest, give him a biscuit and praise. Then try blowing some air on his sides from far away.

Make sure you praise him so he associates the driar with praise.

also, after it's run a short while, shut it off and leave it on the floor/wherever you had it so that the dog can sniff it. obviously, don't move it, turn it on or point it at them when they are just investigating it.
