Question Cleaning Ears??

Ok, I am officially on a dog information frenzy!!! I can't get enough!!!

What do you use to clean you dog's ears and how well do you think it works?

I've heard of Alcohol, baby oil, vinigar water, paroxide water, and store baught ear cleaner. I have never used any of them, I just clean Wrangler's ears with a warm wash cloth after his baths, but I noticed the other day that they seem to be getting dirty more often so I was wondering what cleaner would work best.

I tried to use a liquid in Penny's ears, but she fought me tooth and nail when I would. Now I use some pre-dampened cleaning cloths that she actually seems to enjoy. Just to let you know, this does not do the deep cleaning. Afraid that I will either have to tackle that once in a while or wait and let the poor vet techs do it. They will probably need 3 people to hold her down while doing it.

lol, My outsidew dog Cannon got ear mites and then Wrangler got them and Cannon didn't mind getting his ear's cleaned and the medicne put in but Wrangler really didn't enjoy it! The ear mites are gone though! That was a long time ago and I notice the other day that Wrangler's ears were dirty again but no ear mites...thank goodness!!!

I clean Penny's ears at least once a week, sometimes two. I have had a cocker spaniel before and that poor dog had ear infections constantly and I don't want Penny to have the same problem, so I probably over clean but like I said Penny seems to enjoy it.

I have a solution that I bought from the vet. You squirt some in the ear and work it around in there for a bit, then let the dog shake its head and you wipe off the excess with a tissue.

Bailey hates it, but she puts up with it because she knows that treats follow.

I use PetGold Ear Cleaning Wipes for dogs and cats. It works really well for me. I use them when I remember to.. and you can actually see loads of the gunk coming out.. I always feel assured that her ears are clean afterwards. I love it.

when I had a Great Dane his ears got really gunky and he would lie down while I "detailed" his ears with hydrogen peroxide and q-tips. I think he liked it...there were no treats that followed after so he must of, but he got loads of attention.

I used the alcohol in Wrangler
s ears yesterday and I think it might have burned a little bit so I'm not going to use it anymore. But, I really don't like the idea of using oils because ears are oily enough on their own!

Poodles are notorius for getting gunk in their ears and ear infections because they have so much hair in there. I also get a rinse from the vet called hexarinse. Even though you're not supposed to, I use a q-tip to clean their ears after putting the rinse in. I'm just VERY careful to stay on the outside of the ear and never stick the q-tip down into the ear canal.

I use it twice a week.

I was told to use the mineral oil to soften the gunk, then wipe out with vingar. Works okay for us. Alcohol can dry out the ear and kill the good bacteria which would allow thw yeast to be out of contol and then you have a bigger problem. My joy has had trouble with yeast infections in her ear and it stinks and drives her crazy. Then off to the vet for meds$$$
A little prevention is alot cheaper.
