Are you wanting her feet to look like a poodle, or just keep the hair in between pads cleaned up? I use a #40 to clean between pads and scissors if just clipping long hair between toes. I use a 5/8 blade to clean feet to look like a poodle"s foot.

I use a #10 to clean out in between pads and a #15 backwards to do "poodle feet".

I've never heard of poodle feet causing arthritis... If that were true, why would poodles have the clip?

Anyhow, I like to use a #15 for poodle feet, like I said earlier, as the smaller blade has less chance of nicking the dog. How far up the ankle you clip is really just personal preference. I find that doing it backwards (from the toes towards the ankle) gets the most hair off. You can do most of the foot with the toes together, but to clean out between the toes hold her paw and use a finger on the bottom of her foot to spread her toes enough to get the clippers in between. You don't have to use the whole blade, especially on a tiny Dachsie foot... A corner will do to get the hair off.
