Lamb Chop Bones?
OK, now we've been doing this raw feeding for a while now but I just wondered what you thought about feeding the bones in lamb chops? To me they seem too tiny and could possibly cause a choking hazard BUT somebody I know says they are fine.
Raw feeders what do you think? |

As long as the bones are raw I don't see that there would be any difference in lamb chop bones and say chicken wings.

It depends how they are cut, if they are very thin then NO I would not feed them. If they are thicker where the dog can actually chew on them then they should be fine. I would not feed them if they were cut like chops are cut. I would certainly go to a butcher and ask for lamb bones, like the big femor bones with meat on them.
Just becareful of size, the smaller they are the more likelyhood of choking and getting into more trouble with them. Yes and of course I do not have to say this but feed all bones raw. ![]()

Thanks - of course I would never feed cooked bones! Dobified, I think like you, they were cut thin and Poppy would have been able to get a whole bone in her mouth in one go - I was worried she'd choke on them or get a bit of bone stuck in her throat or something.
Sheltiemania I also wondered about the chicken wings but then I think that chicken bones tend to be softer than lamb bones so perhaps that's why they are OK? |

Yes they are softer and if the wings are frozen they can't bolt them down whole and are forced to chew them before they are swallowed.

Rudy was eating horse toes form the farrier being here last week. There was one that was very thin and he got it caught on the roof of his mouth, it was stuck there and he was going crazy trying to get it out of his mouth, pawing at his face adn stuff like that.
I am pretty sure if you have a thinly sliced bone like a lamb chop bone you could get the same thing caught in the throat. I had to remove the hoof piece myslef for him, poor guy, but he then picked it up before I could grab it and crunched it down and ate it.
