Does your vet do a 3 year rabies or a 1 year?

Also - does your vet recommend leptospirosis - or not?

And finally - when you get a bordertella vaccine - does your last for 6 or 12 months?



My vet does a 12 month rabies.

He also recomends leptospirosis.

And my bordertella vaccine certificate says valid for 6 months - but when I checked the jeffers catalog -it says give every 12 months.....

I think that I am going to go back to giving my own vacs - this gets so expensive.......

Just so you know... Bordetella vaccines are valid for one year, but kennels and some groom shops require them to be given every six months, whicih is probably why it says that on your records.

rabies is every three years
bordetella lasts for one year
and no on the leptospirosis, he has never suggested anything about that.

We are required to get our rabies every year as well as bordetella. And I don't know about leptospirosis, what is it? I don't know if they get shots for that.

My vet does Rabies every three years and actually most vaccinations every three years.

He is an awesome vet because he keeps abreast of the new news regarding vaccines and over vaccination. Things like that.

I truly believe that Rudy is Hypo Thyroid because of OVER vaccination. I have done a lot of reading on the subject and research.

I would love to do the shots less than every year - but we have to board them a couple of times a year and so we don't really have a choice.

My information says that it is not needed for indoor dogs - but it shuld be used for outdoor pets hat may come into contact with feral animals.

I had never heard about it when we lived in CO - but we do have all kinds of critters where we live, and Mads has already neen skunked once and she nearly ate a dead chipmunk that someone ran over, and there was also the guts from someone field dressing a deer on the next door neighbours property.

Lepto is not common in Colorado.. but is being seen more because of Hurricane Katrina. With all the dogs that have come here, they have spread it. It is spread through urine, and can be from contact from feral animal's urine. Some of our doctors are now starting to slowly recommend the vaccine because of it.

If you board it's 6 mos. To be competely honest, one of our doctors thinks it doesn't work. She's seen SO many dogs lately with Kennel Cough, who've gotten the vaccine and go to a doggie daycare on a regular basis. She thinks its like the flu vaccine, where you get one --but there are no guarantees, as there are different strains of kennel cough.

Our vet gives rabies every 3 years after the first year but it depends on were you are some area require that it is given every year even though it last longer you do not need to give lepto unless it is seen alot in your area they can give vaccine without lepto my vet carries 2 distemper vxs one with lepto(mainly for pups) and one without i give every year until they are 5 then go every year as for the Bordetello i refuse to give my dogs a vaccine that causes kennel cough more then it prevents it if you take you dogs to kennel or groomer it is required,but i think it is useless. I have never given that vaccine and my dogs are around other dogs on a daily basis

That's exactly why kennels require it every six months- In hope of combating different strains. As careful as most kennels are, kennel cough still happens. The kennel I used to work at, which was the cleanest kennel I've ever seen, still saw a few cases every now and then.
