exercising puppy
How old should a puppy be before starting taking him for walks? I read that the first year the exercising should be kept to in home play (mostly) in order to save the dogs hips. But then at the same time it said to start agility training at 7 to 9 months.... sooooooo, when did ya all start taking your pups for walks and how long did you go for?

I started walking mine since he was about 4 months old, for short 15min walks at first. Now he's 11mths and I take him for about 30-40mins.

Snuggles is almost 6 months
Snuggles is almost six months and I take her for about a 30 minute walk. Approximately one miles.

what breed is your puppy?
large breed puppies shouldnt be heavily excersised just short 10min walk then gradually making it longer untill they are over a year..but if its a smaller breed you might be able to go for longer and be alright..

I've walked Cali 2-3 times around the block since she was 4 months old. I did keep her from jumping much until she was one - to let her joints and bones fully develop. Luxating patella is a problem with Poms (and most small breeds). This is where their knees slip out of place.
