Teething...

Lady's beginning to lose those baby teeth for big adult dog teeth and her gums are itching worse than ever!! HELP!!! She's taken on this really evil look whenever her gums itch and then it's bite bite bite everything, scrape teeth over the glass doors, on the floor. I've given her bones, pigsears, and some of RC's techniques but that just works for a few minutes... oh dear...

Try putting her treats in the freezer. The cold helps, I think.

I buy big knuckle bones at the grocery store and freeze them. It keeps Merlin occupied.

Carrots are great too. You can even take an old teatowel - tie knots into it. Soak it in water or juice and freeze it.

so frozen things help? Ok then I'm off to get some of her toys in the freezer!! Just one thing...how do you get the water to stay on them before they're frozen?

Jennybeano is on a distinguished road
Itchy has a chewing probelm too... hes horible about it... he trys to chew people and has chewed up the wire and corrner to an old speeker under the bed... he got to my computer cord too... thank god it was unpluged... but I make sure to watch him especially now... but i just give him ice cubes when he seems to be in a biteing mood... I think it helps. He has torn apart his toys so I wouldnt think about freezing them to give him more of a reason to chew on them.

So yeah I have found that ice is a good thing, defently makes him fell at least a little better... and Im going to try the freezing the rag thing too...

Good luck...

I would think it would depend on the toy. Canvas toys you just put water on them and then in the freezer you go. I would give Denali straight ice cubes, she had a blast with them. For other toys (or even canvas) as to not make a mess, you can put them in zip lock baggies.

I found that the ORKA Jack toy is great for teething puppies... The material is hard enough to not be torn to pieces, but soft enough to sooth puppy gums. Here's a link:

I used the frozen rags, too, with my dogs.

Also, I had a wire chewer (chewed through three phone cords). It can be dangerous, depending on what they chew through. I put a thin bead of tobasco sauce (put paper under it until it dries because it will stain carpet if it drips) on all exposed wires, or you can try one of these sprays: Granny's Bitter Apple or a product I like better called Bitter's End (indoor formula)

Of course, a stern NO,NO,NO is warranted, too. Then, "Good dog" when he follows your command and stops.

Patience, patience, patience. I remember this phase in my dog, Tyler, and how exasperating it was. Hang in there!
