What is wrong with MY dog?

Hi,

I was wandering if anyone had experienced or heard of anything similar to what my pet dog Weimararner is experiencing?

He is 5 years old and was castrated when he was young.

In the last month he has had 3 episodes when he has been in his bed and unable to get up for a period of about 10 minutes due to 'unusual activity of his redproductive bits!'

The poor thing keeps getting swollen and excited down below to the extent that he can't physically stand up or do anything except look very sorry for himself. It was really worrying the first time as I thought he had maybe dislocated his hip or something (I hadnt seen his swollen bits at that time!). As soon as the episode is over he's as right as rain and ready to go walkies.

Anyone got any advice before I ship him off to the vets?

Thanks

Chris,

I have a male Doberman with the "excitable" issue.

It doesn't sound as severe as your case, but he often gets "excited" and starts to attack his "stuff", he will eventually lay down and start to suck it, and all is ok.
My vet thinks I am nuts, but there has to be something not normal. This happens several times a day with him.

Please keep us informed with what you find out.

Haha, good to know there's other out there. And the way you say it, it actually sounds like a good thing! hehe, but seriously, yes, Miller's case does seem pretty severe. It doesn't happen very often but when it does he seems basically paralysed almost. Certainly unable to get up, and he has a face on that says "try to get me up and I'm going to bite you ... hard!"

OMG your dog actually sucks his penis????

My neutered dog often gets aroused for some unknown reason! One time I woke up because the bed was shaking and it was him humping the air in his sleep while he was laying down!

I've said it once, I'll say it again. I've never owned a male dog and never had any thought in my mind as to why not have a male dog one day? They're just as lovable, right? I seriously don't know how I could handle a dog getting so happy that he's aroused everytime I come home from work. I'd be like, "Don't touch me, AH!"

JK, I have no addvice being that all myy dogs were girls. I bet all the guys are jealous of your dog, huh, dobermom? hehe.

Get your weim checked out at the vet if you're worried. It may be nothing but if you're that worried I'd get him checked out.

You just have a very ***** pup that needs to take a big run before bed time. I had this problem with Inko my young male when a pup, he would get so excited when we hugged him, it slipped out, balled up and the air dries it because the skin has not been stretched enough to slide back down when relaxed. I just took hold of the skin, yanked it down over quickly and did this everytime I caught him, soon he quit or grew out of it thank Gosh..

Aha, thanks for the info. I might have trouble with the rememdy though as he can be a very nasty little boy, and not so little. I might have to make use of the muzzle and close my eyes!
