Question Opinions, ideas, thoughts NEEDED!!

There was a story on one of my local news stations last week about a family living in horrible conditions. Its being investigated by child welfare if they are going to take the 6 children that are living there.
Animal Control already took the dog. She is a red female Doberman. I have only seen her briefly on the news, but she is said to be in horrible condition. VERY skinny.
I contatcted animal control, she is being saved for me, she is in such bad shape they want her to go to rescue, and not just to the general public. I should be picking her up either Monday or Tuesday.
I contacted the news station about doing a follow up story, they said they would. I want to set up a "fund" to help with all of her medical and everything else that will be going into her.
Whats the best way to do this?
I am in Indiana, the rescue I work with is in Ohio, will people think that looks fishy when they are sending money???
Should I become my own rescue for this situation?
I was thinking of getting her picture and making flyers and going to boarding places, PetSmart, etc asking for donations of food, money, crate, toys, anything.

What other ideas do you guys have?? We have to act quickly, the news will probably do the story tommorrow!

If you are already affiliated with the Ohio rescue, I think that would appear better. I think people are more leary of individual instead of group. Can you use the rescue group name and good standing in order to advertise for donations? I think your other ideas sound good.

I think what I will do is set up an account for donations at my bank with the Ohio group name on it. They can make donations in care of the dog.
I think I am going to call her Kylie.

I would make your own Rescue for this one, so all of the funds goes straight to the dog.

I would also try and make my own rescue for her. People would probably feel more connected to a particular dog, and would be more likely to donate money for her cause. They will know that the money is going straight to the pup, and not to a general rescue to be spent in any way. But either way, with a story on the news then people would probably will feel bad for the poor girl and want to help her.

In addition to the general rescue?

I am not worried about the money being used "incorrectly", I am very in tune with our budgets, and where we sit financially.

We have pay-pal available for donations on the website! I keep forgetting about the website since it's not up to date! That's an option, either that or set up a savings account in the dogs name with you as guardian, that way it wouldn't seem fishy!
