collie puppy dandruff!

Hey, my puppy is 10weeks old, and I think he has dandruff?? He has so much undercoat I cant see his skin, but he is a tri-colored and has all this white flaky stuff on his coat, at first I thought it was dust or something but now I am thinking it might be dandruff. Is this a sign my pooch needs a bath?

Get a shampoo that is detergent and soap free. Oatmeal shampoo is best for skin. It could be caused by many things. Take a look at his diet first.

The puppy does not necessarily need a bath, he needs a rake type tool, matting tool and start to groom against the growth of the hair. Pulling out alot of dead undercoat will also loosen dead skin. Then use a slicker type brush to brush down the coat nice and shiny. Get a spray with some oil in it for the coat plus parfume and he is fit to go. Do this daily for a week and I bet the dryness clears up and being this breed gets so much coat it takes tons of work and care. You might want to add a couple sardines packed in oil to its feed twice a week also. Brushing is so good for all dogs long haired or not. Make it a daily thing, forget bathing as it only strips the natural oils the dogs skin is trying to make. Check out his food also, it could be drying its skin more so than usual. Get a food that stresses good for the skin n coat like Nutro.

what would be good is some codliver oil its great for this kind of problem - also because of the type of coat air doesnt get to the skin like in other breeds so good brushing everyday will stimulate natural oils and that will really help!!

Thanks! I have all the brushes and he is getting brushed quite regularly. He eats Franks which is suppose to be helping the coat....
