Post What to do about the bad breath....

Well, Kirby just got some dental surgery today... He got a tooth pulled this morning, but he's a trooper, very high pain resistance, but he's on some anti-biodics and pain killers now. I really don't think he needs the pain killers, he's completely normal on the activity level, and the pain killers are drugging him, making him dopey, hitting walls and such.

Well, anyways, they prescribed him to a soft dog/cat food diet for the next few days which reeks of tuna. Kirby's breath is smelling like a disgusting mix of surgical thread, flesh, and tuna... He can't eat his normal dental treats for now (greenies), because they're pretty hard, and his toothpaste isn't cutting it. Any ideas on how to keep the smell down? I figured my best bet was to ignore it until I can get him back on kibble....

You could try making treats that help. They might be too hard though, maybe you could break them up to make them easier to eat. Here's a recipe:
Bad Breath Banishers
2 cups brown rice flour
1 Tablespoon activated charcoal (find this at drugstores, not the briquets!)
3 Tablespoons canola oil
1 egg
1/2 cup chopped fresh mint
1/2 cup chopped fresh parsley
2/3 cup lowfat milk
Preheat oven to 400F. Lightly oil a cookie sheet. Combine flour and charcoal. Add all the other ingredients.Drop teaspoonfulls on oiled sheet, about 1 inch apart. Bake 15-20 minutes. Store in airtight container in the refrigerator.

I give my dogs mints from Sonic sometimes, they don't work for very long though. You could try adding chopped fresh mint into his food.

I would agree with you there - just ride it out until everything is back to normal.

Angry

Meal time has gone to all ****... for whatever reason, Kirby didn't want to take his antibiodics this morning. Somehow, he was able to find it in the mound of cat/dog wet junk and spit it out. So I put it back in... and he finds it again. so here I am at 7 AM, running behind schedule looking for something to cram the pill in that's soft enough for him to eat... Finally, I grabbed a grape, peeled it and shoved it in. He didn't find it in there... not to mention it was already gross from soaking up wet food-juices. After he eats the wet food, his face is covered in it, so naturally, he feels the need to drink water and then shove his face in my socks. Yummmmmyyyyyy!

...decided that this part needs a new topic.
