![]() Boone County, Arkansas Volunteers Attempt to Rescue Over 60 Dogs Imagine walking onto your neighbor’s property one day and finding dozens of starving and dying dogs. One Boone County, Arkansas woman found just that and now volunteers are trying to rescue the animals as fast as they can get to them. So far 60 dogs have been taken to the local animal shelter. Three have already been euthanized and there's still about 20 they have to catch. The man authorities said is responsible for the condition of these dogs, 56-year-old Gary Kimes of Harrison, is facing animal cruelty charges. Laura Jenkins owns property just adjacent to Kimes’ land where the makeshift dog kennel was found. She said a man hunting in the area told her about the kennel earlier this week, so she went over to investigate. She said what she found horrified her. Dozens of dogs were loitering in the area, some of them chained up so they couldn't even move. The only food appeared to be moldy bread still inside the plastic bags and piles of rotting animal bones that authorities say were purchased from a processing plant. Two dogs were also found dead at the scene and many dog skulls have been found in the days since the original discovery. Neighbors said that because there were so many dog skulls that the dogs were eating the carcasses of the dogs that had died. Boone County deputies called in the humane society, but there were so many dogs that volunteers like Jenkins began helping out. Jenkins said it is hard to even look at these conditions. "Her leg was like a rag doll leg and her stomach was split open,” Jenkins said of one of the dogs she rescued. “I had to get on my hands and knees under the locust trees to drag her out and I just sat down and cried and said, ‘I can't do it.’ I was just screaming I was so mad." http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/...?petid=5950537 video: http://www.ky3.com/news/2255527.html |

That brought tears to my eyes. I am so glad that the dogs are safe now away from this man. It just makes me soooo sick to my stomach about how cruel people can be.

Unbelieveable--sick guy. Good for that woman to investigate and not turn a blind eye.

I love working as a truck driver because my contact with people is MINIMAL. The human race is the only species on this planet capable of being inherantly evil.
Last year one of my fellow GSD rescue volounteers answered a call about a female GSD living in poor conditions at a junk yard. What she found was not one dog, but a mother and seven puppies! The owner agreed to surrender the mother, but wanted money for the pups! Well, our volounteer is small but mighty, to say the least and she didn't leave until she had all eight dogs safely in her hands. |
