tipping ears

Does anyone have a easy less painful way to tip a collies ears? I am thinking I may do that but most of the ways I have heard are a bit awful sounding. My breeder recommended some sort of cream. Has anyone ever used this at all?

I've heard of taping them. I wouldn't think it would be painful but it would train them to hold the tips down.

If you can get fabric glue you can glue them down. You will lose some hair, but it works great.

Or you could also use gum ... but they don't stay on because it usually gets scratched off. I gave up trying to tip casey's ears because he looked like someone just tortured him to death!.... so i wasn't going to put him through that and gave up on it.... It does take alot of work and paitence... i don't have the link right now but if google "gluing collie's ears" you'll find helpful links....

Yeah I googled it and found a few, but the photos they all seemed so sad except for the woman who just used duct tape. Her dogs looked like ya whatever. I might try the cream. thanks!

Why do you need the ears tipped anyway? My shelties are fully erect, and I think they look just fine.

My borders ears naturally are 3/4 erect..

I just hate the idea of forcing ears to do things, rather than just having them that way due to nature (or REALLY good breeding).

I don't see anything wrong with it as long as the dog isn't hurt. In saying that though Kota's ears are natural and I would not have done anything to her. But then again she's just my pet, she will never be shown. I still like to see even pets resemble the breed standard though.

Faith's ears aren't tipped, but they would be cute if they were.
